REGGIO CALABRIA (ITALPRESS) – The Forestry Carabinieri of Reggio Calabria have carried out five precautionary measures, including one of house arrest and four of the obligation to report to the judicial police, issued by the judge for preliminary investigations of the court of Reggio Calabria against as many people of Italian and Romanian nationality. The investigative activity was carried out under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Reggio Calabria – District Anti-Mafia Directorate. The crimes contested are those of criminal association aimed at the illicit management of waste, its illicit combustion, and the organized illicit trafficking of waste. The vehicles (trucks) used by the associates for waste handling were also subjected to seizure with the aim of confiscation. The investigation is the result of a detailed and complex investigative activity initiated by the Carabinieri Forestale unit of Reggio Calabria through which the existence of a stable criminal association dedicated to the illicit management of waste. Today’s result arose following a roadside inspection of a vehicle loaded with special waste and without the required environmental authorisations. Specifically, the people affected by the measure illegally disposed of large quantities of waste of various types (wooden, ferrous, construction, plastic, sheathing and, even more seriously, slabs of eternity). Through transportation, they delivered the waste to the illegally created landfill and then proceeded to burn it, thus setting up an organized and efficient system, of alarming gravity, capable of exposing the health of an indeterminate number of people to danger, as well as creating serious harm and disfigurement to the environmental matrices.- Photo: Carabinieri Forestali press office – (ITALPRESS).
