After the first stop in Liguria, Legambiente’s Goletta Verde continues its journey along the Peninsula to monitor the health of the sea and coasts, arriving in Tuscany. It will be in Livorno from 1 to 2 July and then in Florence on 3 July for the final press conference to present the monitoring data of Tuscan waters. Now in its 38th edition, Goletta Verde will bring to the forefront among the main themes water purification, biodiversity protection, sustainable energy and the fight against the climate crisis and illegality. The main partners of the campaign are: ANEV, CONOU, Novamont and Renexia, and the media partnership of La Nuova Ecologia.

The Tuscan stop will be full of events ranging from educational workshops to talk about biodiversity with the projects Life Delfi and Life Elife (dolphins and sharks), Life Turtlenest (sea turtles) and Life SeaNet (importance of marine ecosystems and actions to take care of of our territories), to visits on board Goletta Verde, from the exercise of the Tartadogs, the first dog units created in Italy and Europe in a structured way for the research and securing of sea turtle nests, to meetings and conferences on current issues such as the Europa dock. The Goletta Verde will be moored at Andana degli Anelli in the port of Livorno.

The first day of the stage, July 1st, will open with the Tartadogs morning exercise scheduled for 7:30 am on the beach of Calambrone (PI) organized in collaboration with ENCI – Ente Nazionale Cinofilia Italiana. The simulation is part of the LIFE Turtlenest project, a European project involving Italy, Spain and France, of which Legambiente is the leader, and which aims to provide live viewing of two different dog units at work on the beach for the active search and passive reporting of sea turtle nests.

Following this, at 10.00, at the port of Livorno where the Goletta Vede is moored, there will be a short meeting to talk about “Sea turtles, Tartadogs and Goletta Verde for the defense of the sea and its inhabitants” and to take a ritual photo with your four-legged friends and the Legambiente crew. Among other key events, always on July 1st, at 5:00 p.m., on board the Legambiente vessel there will be a short conference on the theme “Marine biodiversity in Tuscany: critical issues and protection actions”; while on Tuesday 2 June, at 10.00 am, at Sala Ferretti, after the greetings of the mayor of Livorno, the conference “Blue eyes on Darsena Europa: ports, logistics, ecological conversion of maritime transport”.

The Goletta Verde crew will then move to Florence on Wednesday 3 July for the final press conference to present the data on the quality of Tuscan waters which will be held at 11.00 am at the “Libri Liberi” bookshop (via San Gallo 25/R).

Fausto Ferruzza, president of Legambiente Toscana, commented: «I am particularly proud to host our flagship campaign in Livorno – he declared – not only because it has been a few years since we landed in the city of Livorno, but also and above all because it will be the occasion to explore many issues that aspire from local to become regional and national».

In this 2024 edition, it returns il Goletta SOS service of Legambiente to report anomalous discharges, suspicious stains or pollution along the coasts and beaches of your territory by filling out the appropriate form on the dedicated page.

“Postcards from the sea”: art on board the Goletta Verde. This year you can concretely support the journey of the Goletta Verde with a donation through the page: https://sostieni.legambiente.it/cartolinadalmare. For a minimum contribution you can receive one of the “Postcards from the sea”: small works created by the artists of the Timarete Arte group, with the aim of spreading the message in defense of the sea as much as possible.
