Alessandria, a refrigerated container for the Food Bank

ALEXANDRIA – Un refrigerated bank container al Food Bank. The non-profit organization donated it Confartigianato Alessandria for the Sociale Odv, as part of ‘Siticibo’, a project which involves the dioceses of the province of Alessandria and which aims to recover unsold food from the distribution network to deliver it to people in need of assistance.

“The initiative promoted by the Food Bank – says the president Paolo Bertolini – aims to address two important social issues, such as food waste and support for the poor and needy, through retail food distribution network agreements (currently 18 supermarkets which will soon become 34) thanks to which it has been possible to date to recover 142 thousand kilos of packaged food close to its expiry date but still perfectly edible, subsequently distributed to families in need of help”.

A very useful container

Thanks to the ‘Coldtainer’ drive-through cold storage unit, donated to the Alessandria Food Bank, which has its operational headquarters in the former Giorgi barracks in Novi Ligure, it will now be possible to extend the collection and delivery of fresh food to those in need, having the possibility of transporting food at temperatures from +30 to -21 degrees centigrade in full compliance with health and hygiene regulations.

“It is with great pleasure – adds the president of the Onlus Confartigianato Alessandria per il Sociale Adelio Ferrari – that we have supported the Siticibo project, supporting a worthy initiative reported to us by the President of Confartigianato of the Novi Ligure area, Gabriele Ancaraniwhich will allow us to significantly increase the share of food collected by the Food Bank and still destined for human consumption, otherwise destined for disposal”.
