Adelante, but with judgment. This is the message that comes through during the press conference to present Michele Mignani, the new coach of Cesena. That is, feet on the ground, Serie B has become hell.
Sober style, very British, here is the new mister. “Describing myself is difficult – he says immediately –, I recognize balance as a gift. The call from Cesena is a source of pride for me, I have gotten to know the club in recent days, I have seen it ambitious, growing and I am here to confirm what I have done so far in my career.
It’s always difficult to arrive after an unrepeatable season for results and records broken, but the coach shows clear ideas especially on the face he wants to give to the team. “Football goes in a very specific direction, a lot of running and competitive spirit are needed in a category that has made significant progress also technically. So we will have to try to be well organized in attack but especially in defense and above all cultivate the enthusiasm born after last season. It will also be important to adapt quickly to the new environment, very different from the one left behind”.
The appeal is for those who have never done B and will find themselves faced with a completely new world. “Football isn’t waiting for you. We need to quickly forget last season’s ride because what was done in the past no longer counts from now on. Every match will be a battle to bring home points. Goals? There aren’t any yet. we talked, the field will determine where we can get to, so I’m not sure we’ll try to continue on last year’s form as a starting point with the ability to change on the fly, so the boys will have to learn to be eclectic. So we start with the three-man defence, then we’ll see. It will also depend on market movements, but the idea is not to distort the profile of a group that has done very well, albeit in another category.”
Of course, there is room for young people, in Cesena it cannot be otherwise. “Cesena has always shown that it knows how to raise and develop interesting young people, we will give continuity to the project with the help of this extraordinary public. Every time I have come as a player or coach I have noticed the great warmth that this stadium, this fan base, exudes. Those who have been here have told me how beautiful it is to play in a stadium where families arrive early to enjoy the atmosphere”.
