Elio Germano will be the leading actor of the eleventh edition of Piazze di Cinema, the festival that brings the protagonists of Italian cinema to the historic center of Cesena. The hub of the Cesena summer of cinema will be Piazza Almerici, in front of the Malatestiana library, which will host evenings dedicated to screenings, meetings and live soundtracks from Friday 5 July to Thursday 18 July, with further screenings proposed at the San Biagio arena, and aperitifs with the author in the Dandini courtyard and at the Chiostro di San Francesco. The Malatestiana will also be the scene of screenings and exhibitions, including one dedicated to Elio Germano. The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Cesena with the artistic direction of the Eliseo cinema. “My eyes smiled as I read the program of the festival – said the councilor for budget and culture Camillo Acerbi – because there wasn’t a film that didn’t interest me. Such an important festival serves to provide a service to citizens, as well as tourists”. The guest of honor will be Elio Germano, one of the most versatile and appreciated actors of Italian cinema, who will be in Cesena on Wednesday 17 July for the screening of the film in which he starred, ‘Il giovane favoloso’ by Mario Martone and the new ‘Confidenza’ by Daniele Lucchetti. ‘Palazzina Laf’ by Michele Riondino will also be shown (11 July) and ‘L’incredibile storia de L’isola delle rose’ by Sidney Sibilia (18 July). Piazze di Cinema will offer a long series of special events, with live soundtracks, meetings, screenings of restored classics in Piazza Almerici and Arena San Biagio. It starts on 5 July with the two films by Buster Keaton ‘Sherlock Jr’ and ‘A Week’. On Saturday 6 July the cult film by Jim Jarmusch ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’ will be screened, while on Monday 8 July it will be the turn of the award-winning animated film ‘My Friend Robot’ by Pablo Berget. The screenings will continue until July 18. There will also be book presentations, chats about cinema and drinks in company at ‘Aperitivo con l’autore’ in collaboration with Re di pane, libreria I libri di Elena and Emilia Romagna Festival. The first aperitivo with the author will be on Saturday July 6 at Re di pane, where Gabriella Giliberti will present her ‘Love song for a vampire’, in dialogue with Giulia Quintabà. On Sunday July 7, the Chiostro di San Francesco will host the great Sonia Bergamasco who will present ‘A body for everyone. Biography of the actress’s profession’. Also on the program is Monty Banks, a selection of the most significant first and second works of the season, accompanied by the author or the performers. On the program are ‘El Paraiso’ (July 5) by Enrico Maria Artale at the Arena San Biagio and ‘Io e il secco’ (July 6) by Gianluca Santoni. At the Malatestiana from Friday 5 July to 15 September the photographic exhibition ‘Omaggio a Elio Germano’ will be visible, while from Wednesday 10 July to 15 September the photographic exhibition ‘CliCiak – scatti di cinema’ returns. The events in Piazza Almerici, Biblioteca Malatestiana and Re di Pane are free to enter, while at the Arena San Biagio the cost is 3.50 euros.
