Sassari. Millions of euros of damage to Sardinian agro-pastoral companies both in the short term due to the losses of many current productions that will not be able to go to the sales markets, and in the medium-long term for the increase in costs to repair the damage suffered by crops and company structures. It is a real emergency that is affecting the countryside in Sardinia (as in all of Italy) due to uncontrolled wildlife.
An emergency that is bringing the agricultural world of Coldiretti Sardinia to the streets, in the wake of the national mobilization, with the blitz underway since this morning in front of the prefectures of all the Sardinian provincial capitals. Cagliari, Sassari, Oristano and Nuoro, the garrisons are bringing hundreds of farmers and breeders to the streets to say a stop to uncontrolled wildlife which is causing serious damage to the agricultural world. All exacerbated by the emergency on the roads with carsmobile and motorcyclists who increasingly have to deal with accidents, sometimes tragic ones like the one that occurred to a motorcyclist who lost his life a few days ago on the streets of Pula.
ALARM. From Cagliari to Oristano, passing through Sassari and Nuoro, hundreds of farmers and breeders met in front of the headquarters of the major representatives of the State in the Region, the prefects, to ask for direct involvement of the State officials. A cry of alarm that the prefects have taken up by meeting the provincial delegations of Coldiretti who are bringing the requests of the dispute and showing in a tangible way through photographs and videos, but also fruits and vegetables hit by wild fauna, what damage the agro-pastoral companies of the island count every day.
SARDINIA. Coldiretti has been bringing the problem to the attention of the institutions for some time, both at a national and regional level, but in many cases there is still a lack of management and monitoring plans for the phenomenon and some of those approved need to be revised to be more effective in the face of a phenomenon which continues to give no respite. Hence the requests to the Prefects but also to the highest officials of Sardinia between the Region and the Regional Council for rapid interventions to support the agricultural sector and give impetus to emergency and structural support policies to stem the serious phenomenon.
“The serious problem of wild fauna is one of the emergencies most felt by our farmers and breeders – underlines Battista Cualbu, president of Coldiretti Sardegna – the mobilization of Coldiretti Sardegna after the drought has highlighted another of the critical issues that have long afflicted our countryside. It is urgent to intervene to compensate for the damage that affects dozens of agricultural companies every day – he concludes – the problems caused by wild fauna have a heavy impact on production”.
For Luca Saba, director of Coldiretti Sardegna, moreover, “Sardinian farmers and breeders are already put to the test by a series of adversities, first of all the drought that has led to significant losses in terms of production and profitability – he recalls – to these problems are now added the damage caused by wild fauna that amounts to millions of euros and risks further compromising the economic sustainability of agricultural activities. It is no longer sustainable that our farmers and breeders must face, in addition to the climatic and market difficulties, also the devastation caused by this uncontrolled phenomenon – he concludes – it is essential to intervene urgently: we cannot wait any longer, because every day of delay worsens the situation”.
