A selection for the formation of rankings relating to the assignment of 30 study prizes of 500 euros each destined for the best students enrolled in degree courses active in the Ionian capital for the academic year 2023/2024 and two research grants on transversal sustainability issuesboth for an amount equal to 7.500 eurofor the completion of the scientific training of graduates which will take place at the Jonico Department.

The initiative, which makes use of the so-called “Ex Ilva funds”was presented yesterday morning, Thursday 27 June, during the press conference to present the new measures to support university studies adopted by Municipality of Taranto in collaboration with the Department itself.

The contents of the announcement were illustrated to the press the councilor for Public Education, University and School Building, Désirée Petrosilloand the Director of the Ionian Department of Taranto, Prof. Paolo Pardolesiwhich highlighted the collaboration between the civic body and the university structure.

«In remembering – specified councilor Petrosillo – that the call is still ongoing, with deadline July 4thI would like to underline the fact that it corresponds to a social justice objective that the ex Ilva funds are used for students, for the young people of Taranto with a view to process of change that the city has undertaken by breaking away from the steel monoculture. This collaboration with the Department is bearing the fruits we all hoped for.” «With the Municipality we have created a great synergy over the years, and we have managed to publicise this call, out of 30 research awards and two post-graduate scholarships, which demonstrates a moment of growth for the university world of Taranto» Pardolesi wanted to underline.

Also commenting was Mayor Melucci for whom «qThese initiatives are yet another result of the municipal administration’s constant commitment to promoting academic excellence and supporting the talents of our Ionian capital. To date the use of former Ilva funds allowed the start of twelve projects with an investment of more than 20 and a half million euros, of which three are intended for study support. We firmly believe in the importance of education as a driver of development and progress, and we are determined to offer concrete opportunities to young people from Taranto who stand out for their merit and dedication. Scholarships and study awards represent an investment in the future of Tarantoa tangible sign of our support for the education of a new generation of leader and professionals.”
