Anas has announced the construction of a roundabout between the SS 296 state road with via Trincea delle Frasche and via Monte Cengio

The interventions planned for the road network were presented this morning during a press conference, in particular in the quadrant included between the Airport viaduct and the Scafa Bridge.
During the conference, the Mayor of Fiumicino reported what is planned for the improvement of circulation and city traffic, especially in the run-up to the summer season. Mario Baccinil’Ing. Marco Moladori Head of the Territorial Structure of Anas Lazio, the Councillor for Public Works Giovanna Onorati and the Managers of the Territorial Strategies and Public Works Area.
First of all, Anas announced that it will proceed shortly, after having dissolved the contract with the company that was carrying out the works on the Airport viaduct, with the resolution in damages for serious breaches, to the arrangement of the road system of the section in question, with the opening to traffic of the northbound carriageway in the direction of the Airport with two lanes in each direction, also providing for the arrangement of the signs, on both carriageways. The reopening will be carried out following the latest technical and structural assessments, precisely to improve traffic flow in view of the imminent Jubilee of 2025.
In order to control the traffic on the viaduct, systems will be installed to monitor the transit of vehicles outside the maximum permitted mass and equipment dedicated to the constant monitoring of the structural behavior of the infrastructure. The reopening will allow us to fluidly manage the amount of traffic that moves from Fiumicino to Ostia and vice versa every day, reducing user inconvenience and improving traffic flow on the A91 motorway. Regarding the procedure for the reconstruction of the new viaduct, Anas will subsequently proceed with the assignment of the works to a new company, evaluating the procedural path suitable for the assignment of the contract.
At the same time, the construction works of the road junctions 1 and 2 will continue, to allow the temporary connection between Via del Lago di Traiano and Corridor C5, with the end of the works scheduled for September. This alternative road system will also allow, when the viaduct is demolished to make room for the new construction, to have an alternative and functional usability of vehicular traffic, especially for the citizens of Fiumicino. Anas has also announced that it is providing, in an already advanced planning phase, for the improvement of road safety at the intersection between the state road SS 296 with the municipal road of Via Trincea delle Frasche and Via Monte Cengio. For the intersection the construction of a large roundabout is planned which will allow the management of vehicular traffic in a usable and orderly manner. At the same time, Anas will also improve the Fiumicino Sud junction with an alternative road system that is more suitable and safe for the artery and for all the citizens who travel there every day.
