Blood collection, Emiliano at the awareness day in Brindisi and Latiano: “Donating creates a very important community value” – PRESS REGIONE

“Blood donation makes healthcare organization and patient safety much easier. And it is also educational: we get used to thinking that everyone’s life depends on others and on the ability to share, creating a very important community value. It’s truly a beautiful thing to donate and allow the healthcare system to function better.”
This was stated by the president of the Puglia Region Michele Emilianoparticipating in the blood donation awareness day with two events promoted by the Transfusion Center of the Perrino hospital in Brindisi, organized in collaboration with the Capuchin State Comprehensive Institute of Brindisi and the Municipality of Latiano.
In the external atrium of the Perrino hospital, the exhibition of the “The value of the gift” competition was set up, coordinated by the Capuchin Institute, leader of the project, in which some primary and lower secondary schools in the province participated.
President Emiliano awarded the ex-aequo winners of the competition: the Pessina-Vitale state teaching club of Ostuni (fifth class C, graphic work); the Santa Chiara state comprehensive school in Brindisi (lower secondary school, second class C, graphic work); the Second State Teaching Club of Fasano (second class A, graphic work); the Capuchin Comprehensive Institute of Brindisi (first level upper secondary, second class C, graphic and multidimensional work). In raising awareness of blood donation, the classes were supported by representatives of the Avis, Red Cross, Fidas, Fratres associations together with the teachers.
In addition to President Emiliano, those who spoke were the President of the Province of Brindisi, Toni Matarrelli, the Archbishop of Brindisi, Monsignor Giovanni Intini, the general director of the ASL Brindisi Maurizio De Nuccio, the health director Vincenzo Gigantelli, the administrative director Loredana Carulli, the director of the Transfusion Medicine Service of the Perrino hospital, Antonella Miccoli, the head teacher of the Capuchin school, Rosetta Carlino, also contact person for the Province of the regional network of schools that promote health. Also present were the regional councilor Fabiano Amati, the director of the regional Department of Health Promotion, Vito Montanaro, the advisor to President Emiliano for Health, Tommaso Gioia, and the president of the Medical Association of Brindisi, Arturo Oliva. The hospital staff also participated in the ceremony.
Immediately afterwards, the president of the Emilian Region, accompanied by the leaders of the ASL, visited the Hemodynamics room with the new angiograph, in the Cardiology department on the fourth floor of the Perrino hospital, together with the acting director of the Cardiology department, Gian Paolo Giorda, to the director of Radiology, Eluisa Muscogiuri and to the engineer of the technical area Daniele Paladini who illustrated the characteristics of the angiograph. It is a latest generation device with a hanging screen for displaying very high definition images and a touchscreen module on the table which guarantees ease of use. The control room is equipped with two high-resolution monitors and a workstation for processing images and videos acquired during the exam.

It is a high-tech device serving the entire territory. Subsequently, in Latiano, in viale Fosse Ardeatine, the new fixed blood collection unit was inaugurated, in a municipal building given on free loan to the Local Health Authority and already used for
extraordinary blood donations from the local Avis with the staff of the Transfusion Center. Also participating in this second event were the president of the Region, the strategic management of the ASL and Dr. Miccoli, with the mayor of Latiano Cosimo Maiorano, the president of the municipal council Gabriele Argentieri, the provincial president of Avis Sergio Zezza and the president of Avis municipality Veronica Chionna.
