Almost 350. These are the athletes who competed last night (19 June) in the famous race A complete tour of the walls, valid race on the calendar of the Tuscan Running Criterium. Competitive race with all the trappings, with in miniature “only the distance to travel”: 4223 meters, or a complete circuit of the walls, to be done at breakneck speed as the name of the race dictates.

“This year too, many athletes arrived in the city, coming from all the provinces of Tuscany and beyond. This makes us proud, both as a LuccaMarathon company and promoters of the beauty of our territory.” They are the words of president Francesco Rosiimmediately after the awards ceremony for all the athletes and not before thanking all the organisers, the municipal police order service with the motorbikes, the volunteers along the walls and all the sponsors (Aby Broker, Banco di Lucca, Polo Salute, Ego, Acqua San Benedetto and Toptà), which allowed the event to take place.

“Due thanks – continues Rosi – tocouncilor with responsibility for sport Fabio Barsanti, always present in all our events, who rewarded the over 30 athletes who reached the podium. Finally, a special thank you to my friend Graziano Poli of the Apuan Alps GPexceptional speaker of the entire event, who from the early hours of the afternoon expertly narrated the history of local racing and the exploits of all the athletes who gave value to this discipline”.

Again in the words of President Francesco Rosi, “the full tour of Mura, the 2024 organizational season of LuccaMarathon closes. An extremely positive balance confirming the excellent performance of 2023, where in the three races organized in the last two months, (half marathon of Lucca, Lucchesina and the full Giro di mura), we brought over 2500 people running in our city. A significant fact, demonstrating how much Lucca is loved and able to give emotions to all the runners. All this fills us with pride and thinking about the activities of 2025, hoping for something important, because the ingredients are all there and Lucca has shown that it has great potential. See you next year with the president’s greetings.”

For the record, the race was won by Tomas Tei in 13’01”, ahead of teammate Paolo Marsili just 3 seconds away and third place Oskar Samuele Cassi of Toscana Atletica Jolly, 5 seconds behind.

For the overall women’s podium and with the amazing time of 14 minutes straight, first overall, Enrica Buttons of Calcestruzzi Corradini Excels, ahead of the two local athletes, second, Carolina Fraquelli of Atletica Virtus Lucca at just 9 seconds and third came the athlete Marta Micchi, of the Gp Alpi Apuane with a time of 15’23”.
