Crotone – Abramo employees in the square, and Calabrian parliamentarians are absent: their names read

They responded “absent” to the roll call made this morning in Piazza della Resistenza after the invitation, dei 600 Crotone employees, at the reading of the names of the nineteen Calabrian parliamentarians and of the Governor Occhiuto, not present today at the demonstration called by workers who will first go into redundancy and then see their jobs lost.

The shutters of commercial activities loweredwith 600 workers in Piazza della Resistenza under the Municipality building together with the three trade unions, the mayor of the City of Crotone Vincenzo Vocethe mayor of Cutro Antonio Cerasothe president of the intermediate body Sergio Ferrarithe vice president of the province Fabio Manchea number of municipal councilors together with the president Mario Megnaand the trade associations. These were the people present this morning, with the city of Crotone not participating in the demonstration which saw employees strike for four hours and demand the right to work.

The right to work, as enshrined in the Italian Constitution and highlighted on the signs present in Piazza della Resistenza this morning, while the employees descended compactly from the Council Room where, since Monday, they have been holding a permanent meeting; came down with the posters, in fact, and the whistles, drawing the attention of the city in the summer heat but which, as we told you before, did not respond presently.

Not even the Calabrian parliamentarians were present: “Then they tell us that they want to bring the development of the territory back to Calabria with investments – said the Uil secretary Fabio Tomaino to those present – because in the meantime they are creating unemployment and desperation in the territories. Here there is a desire to work, there is no desire for welfare provision. Here we have a solid order with great professionalism of the workers.”

Politics is absent and is there for all to see – he added Mary PupaConfederal secretary CGIL Vasta Area – if we have reached this point precisely because there has been a lack of politics which has not been able to take immediate action and influence a national table to decide the future of these workers and their dignity. We are tired of waiting.”

An extension, it was added to this morning’s demonstration, is not enough: At the right time we will deal with all the Calabrian politicians who are in Rome – are the words of Gianluca Bifano – general secretary Fistel Cisl Calabria- we are not satisfied with the extension if the proposal itself is not linked to a structural position which must concern the entire employment perimeter of Abramo”.

One employee spoke for everyone: “We wanted parliamentarians to bring our voice to the Government, the voice of people who will lose their jobs. Occhiuto had promised us his commitment, I hope that with this protest he will give us consideration. Perhaps the only fault he has is not having done much, now the time has come for him to answer our questions”. Meanwhile, the permanent assembly in the council chamber will continue to the bitter end.
