TRAPANI (ITALPRESS) – Drug consumption is growing in the province of Trapani. An alarming picture emerges from the data collected by the SerD of the ASP of Trapani. Between 2022 and 2023, an increase in drug use of 28 percent and a decrease in the age of consumers was recorded. Crack and cocaine are especially popular among young people. The users managed by the five SerDs located in the province went from 4,156 in 2022 to 5,328 in 2023. The data, presented by the director of the mental health department of the ASP of Trapani, Gaetano Vivona, in fact refers to consumers included in a recovery process.
The problems linked to the use of narcotic substances were discussed during a meeting, which took place in the former Piazza Mercato del Pesce, promoted by the Provincial Health Authority of Trapani in concert with local bodies and institutions. Prevention, this is the watchword of the event which had as its main objective to provide useful information on the risks linked to drug and alcohol consumption and information to families who often find themselves facing this type of problem alone. The prefect of Trapani, Daniela Lupo, and the police commissioner, Giuseppe Peritore, also took part in the event, illustrating all the initiatives implemented to prevent and combat the phenomenon. “Increase all available resources to combat the use of alcohol and drugs, especially among younger people”, this is the objective of the ASP of Trapani, as explained by the general director Ferdinando Croce. The ASP camper was also present in the square, with the operators who provided all the useful information to the citizens.
