EU appointments, Sallusti sinks Operation Ursula: “Choice of power”

There is a clear contradiction taking place: on the one hand there is a large segment of European citizens who, as the European elections have demonstrated, have veered decisively towards the right. Palpable examples are two of the central powers of the European Union, France and Italy. On the other hand there is the ‘Ursula majority’ who does not want to abdicate. During the Wednesday 26 June episode of the new Rete 4 programme, “4 in the evening”, the agreement was discussed between the negotiators of the majority led by the President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Layen which will be debated in the Council of Europe , and which ousts Giorgia Meloni’s Group of European Conservatives and Reformists. There are those who saw the leader of the Brothers of Italy as a little disappointed, but for Alessandro Sallusti it takes much more to bring her down: “Associating the term scared with Meloni doesn’t add up to me. She’s not someone who gets scared, she’s never been scared of her in her life.”

The director of Il Giornale, guest of the hosts Francesca Barra and Roberto Poletti, then launched a dig at the MEP of the Democratic Party Matteo Ricci: “He belongs to a party that is part of the European ‘centre-left’ coalition which it seems he could form the new government, but what he doesn’t say is that the Democratic Party is used to governing without having won elections”. History repeats itself, in Italy as in Brussels: “Here they governed for 12 years without ever being the first party in the elections, in Europe it’s the same thing.”

Sallusti, however, does not see a rosy future for the Ursula majority: “It is a numerically very weak majority, at high risk of snipers. Whose program, among other things, was rejected by voters given that it lost many votes.” In fact, the contradiction lies precisely at this point: “The consensus has increased significantly compared to 5 years ago and is that of the parties that will be in opposition.” For the director, although it is a legitimate dynamic, it can be interpreted as a risky move to say the least: “A government is being born that goes against the tide of the voters’ indications, so it is a choice of power”, Sallusti commented bitterly.
