140 firefighters intervened. 100 mm of rain fell in an hour

Emergency returned to Castelfranco Veneto after the flooding of the Avenale during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. In an hour, 100 mm of rain fell in the northern area of Castelfranco, swelling the torrent which, in some sections, exceeded the banks by 60 cm (it was 45/50 cm in the mid-May flood), too many to contain the force of the flood. water that invaded some areas of the city.

Mayor Stefano Marcon coordinated the civil protection interventions from the headquarters of the Municipal Operations Center in via Lovara in constant coordination with the Fire Brigade. Over a hundred calls to the emergency numbers from citizens who requested intervention mainly due to flooded basements. «Fortunately we do not record any injuries – explained the mayor – I thank the many volunteers who with a great spirit of generosity have spent themselves tirelessly in addition to the Fire Brigade, Local Police and the various security forces. I thank Franco De Faveri of the National Carabinieri Association (ANC) and all the teams present, the municipal coordinator Luca Pozzobon and the provincial coordinator of Civil Protection, Maurizio Miotto, the captain of the Carabinieri, Malaspina and the Mobile Command of the Fire Brigade, the divers and speleologists. A synergistic work that tried to contain this huge mass of water that invaded the city.”

The city center with the first quadrant of Piazza Giorgione, Bella Venezia and the Avenale district are the most affected areas, but late at night the union order banning transit also affected via San Pio X, via Fra Giocondo, via Regina Cornaro, via Cerchiara and via Volta. After the water bomb that fell on the Castellana, the Avenale returned to its banks in the early morning today. Problems remain in the SR53 underpass in the commercial area which is still closed as well as the Bella Venezia cycle and pedestrian path. Around a hundred flooded basements have been subjected, in these hours, to the interventions of the Fire Brigade and the Civil Protection teams arriving from the Treviso area and the nearby provinces of Padua and Belluno. The COC opened late in the evening is fully operational and interventions are underway by ENEL technical staff to restore electricity failures in some areas. However, no reports were received from the Muson side who, despite the heavy backhand, remained between the banks.

Bad weather also hits the Sartor center

The wave of bad weather that hit Castelfranco Veneto yesterday evening, Tuesday 25 June, did not even spare the “Domenico Sartor” Personal Services Center. The course of the Avenale, which flows a short distance from the structure, overflowed its banks and flooded the basement and basement of the residence for the elderly, causing extensive damage to the warehouse and offices of the healthcare area, as well as to the heating and electrical power plants. All the guests of the retirement home were safe, spending the night peacefully in their rooms, which were not affected by the flooding. «As soon as the situation became critical we immediately called for help and activated the emergency plan – comment the President of the Sartor Center Maurizio Trento and the Secretary Director Elisabetta Barbato -. In addition to the intervention of the Fire Brigade with their equipment, the cranes of a construction company also promptly arrived on site to arrange the sand and the vehicles of a drainage company to help free the rooms from the water that we called to deal with the emergency. Unfortunately, the damage to the premises and equipment was extensive, but the guests remained safe the entire time. Also as a precaution, and to allow operators to intervene quickly, external visits by family and friends have been suspended today. We thank those who took action for our structure, the Civil Protection volunteers, the Fire Brigade, the companies that intervened and the institutions. Special thanks to the technical office for having coordinated all the safety operations of the structure and to the staff of the Sartor Center who have worked and are working to ensure that the daily activities of the guests are guaranteed despite the critical situation: their well-being and their serenity is our absolute priority.”

Zaia: «The declaration of a state of emergency has been opened»

«Yesterday was a particularly difficult day because several areas of Veneto were hit by bad weather. After Rovigo and Polesine were hit by a whirlwind in the morning, heavy rainfall hit the foothills of Castelfranco Veneto last night and during the night. The Avenale river overflowed, causing many floods. Over 20 Civil Protection teams have been deployed and are still partly working to restore the damage caused by dozens of floods.” This was declared by the President of the Veneto Region Luca Zaia, giving an overview of the situation with respect to the wave of bad weather that hit some areas of the region yesterday, from the Rovigo area to the Treviso foothills from Castelfranco to Castello di Godego, Resana and Riese Pio over 140 calls to the fire brigade for flooding. «We are confident in an improvement in the weather conditions in the meantime the most critical situations are being resolved – reiterates Zaia – already yesterday we opened the declaration of state of emergency for what happened in Asiago on Sunday and in Rovigo yesterday morning. The measure will be extended to the areas affected yesterday evening. I reiterate my thanks to all those who are tirelessly working to support those who have been affected by the effects of the bad weather: from the Civil Protection to the regional technicians, from the Fire Brigade to the police and to those employed in the emergency vehicles”.

The forecast for the next few hours

In Veneto this afternoon there are still unstable weather conditions at times with probable scattered showers and local thunderstorms especially in the Prealps and plains (not excluding local intense phenomena). From the evening onwards the tendency towards the thinning out and exhaustion of the phenomena is highlighted. Tomorrow and Friday the gradual establishment of a high pressure promontory will guarantee the return to more stable weather conditions except for modest variability in the afternoon especially on the reliefs. In light of these Arpav weather forecasts, the Decentralized Functional Center of the Civil Protection of Veneto has issued a new criticality warning valid from 2.00 pm today to 2.00 pm tomorrow 27 June which decrees the state of attention for hydrogeological and hydraulic criticality (yellow ) in the lower Brenta – Bacchiglione basin (also referring to the Brenta flood). The state of attention due to hydraulic criticality in the Alto Brenta-Bacchiglione-Alpone basins is confirmed (also referring to the Brenta flood); of the Adige-Garda and Monti Lessini; of the Po, Fissero-Tartaro-Canal Bianco and Basso Adige (referring to the flooding of the Po River expected starting from 12.00 today). The hydraulic criticality relating to the Adige river is to be considered “moderate” in the downstream section of Boara Pisani, “ordinary” in the upstream section. In fact, high levels continue to remain along the river. Until 2.00 pm today 26 June, upstream of the Boara Pisani section the operational phase is one of caution, while along the downstream section, where specific critical issues affecting the embankment body are confirmed, the operational phase is to be considered a pre-alarm phase.
