“More women in the agri-food sector”

“We need to activate shared paths aimed at encouraging the presence of women in the agri-food sector, especially with regards to the production phase”.

The challenge was launched in the round table on equal opportunities held at the Campano Museum in Capua by Gaetano Laurenza, provincial secretary of Uila, who opened a discussion within the sector by taking advantage of the presence in the room of giants such as Coca Cola HBC, Barilla SpA, Parmalat SpA, Ferrarelle SpA, Iffco Italia SrL, Dolciaria Acquaviva, Ilc Mediterranea and Pastificio Pallante.

Uila’s challenge can find a strong institutional support in Annarita Patriarca, secretary of the Equal Opportunities Committee of the Chamber of Deputies for whom “it is time to act. There is a reference regulatory framework with support actions for working women and with incentives for those companies that apply equal pay – the deputy underlined – unfortunately there is not always a correspondence between the real world and regulatory references. Our task must be to ensure that women are evaluated for what they are abilities and potential and not because of his gender”.

“The theme of gender policies has become increasingly central in the action of our category – added the national equal opportunities manager of Uila Raffaella Sette – We are engaged in a challenge to reconcile life and work times with moments of discussion like this , but also through constant dialogue with businesses”. A commitment that was also forcefully reiterated by Melania Sannino, regional equal opportunities manager of Uila who highlighted how there is an equal opportunities problem in Terra di Lavoro. “In this area there are women who still struggle to integrate into the world of work – she specified – this is why as an organization we have created coordination to give a voice to these women outside too”.

The debate started from the report by Teresa Scalaprice, head of equal opportunities at Uila Caserta. “Women are still relegated to a marginal role in the world of work and in the agro-food sector – she highlighted – we need to create a balance between life and work times”.

Lucia Pignata, human resources manager of the Basso Volturno reclamation consortium, brought her experience as a woman at the top. “We are few – she began – in the world of agriculture and consortia the presence of women is very small, but a generational change is underway which we must support with virtuous paths and awareness initiatives like this”.

Adriano Tartaglia, human resources director of Ferrarelle benefit society, spoke of how “the well-being of female workers is one of the company’s missions”. Among others, the president of the equal opportunities commission of the municipality of Caserta Antonella Serpico also participated in the work.
