It is clear from the traffic data produced by the PUMS of the city of Andria that the section of the second road ring of our city, between Viale Goito and Viale Ausonia, is used mainly to reach more distant parts of the city and not as neighborhood traffic. or intra-neighborhood.
The only possible communication route in the western part of the city is precisely the one described above, currently flooded, highly polluted and rather unrepresentative of a changing city – says Dr. Antonio Leonetti President of Urban Mobility.
We have repeatedly reiterated that the city of Andria is easily accessible on foot and that the car is not essential for our travels, but this case instead highlights a strong necessity: the traffic analysis highlights that these cars come from distant points of the Andria area (PIP area, peripheral areas, agricultural land and often from neighboring cities) and which identify commuter drivers returning home from work, not simple citizens who, superfluously, use the car to do the shopping.
This stretch of road is crossed by cars almost at all hours, sometimes also by trucks and especially in summer and autumn by agricultural vehicles, or rather by agricultural tractors, which reach the countryside in the area.
There are just a couple of hours of pause or almost silence on that stretch of road, between 2 and 4 in the morning; from 4 onwards, agricultural vehicles alternate, often agricultural tractors, medium-sized trucks that cut through the city and reach the Andria – Canosa provincial road, followed by commuters’ cars that reach their places of work.
On Via Muzio, the Federico II di Svevia primary school of the Istituto Comprensivo Imbriani Salvemini had to install a long wall of sound-absorbing panels to safeguard the school life of its students from the noise pollution of the street.
Public transport buses try to limit congestion by offering an alternative, but they are not yet sufficient to make a clear improvement. Someone also mentioned the remodulation of traffic flows or even the reactivation of traffic lights which in our opinion would contribute to creating long queues.
We, however, think that the need to understand whether there are some situations in which to relieve an area of ​​traffic it is necessary to create a new artery should not be hidden, in fact the streets via Dalmazia, viale Goito, viale Puglia, via Muzio up to viale Ausonia face the lack of a ring road or a fast road outside urbanized areas, to the advantage of the redevelopment of those routes devoid of greenery and infrastructure serving soft mobility and highly polluted, rehabilitating them to the function of neighborhood streets decorated with furniture most characteristic urban.
