Accessible tourism: inauguration of the Beteyà Park at the Plaia di Catania

In Catania, on the Plaia coast, the new inclusive adventure park is born: it is called “Beteyà” – which in the Manding language means beautiful and good – it is located in the Don Bosco Colony (Viale Presidente Kennedy 55) and was created thanks to Tourability, the project financed by the Department of Family, Social and Labor Policies of the Sicilian Region and by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to expand the offer of accessible tourism on the island.

The Beteyà Park will be inaugurated at 5pm on Saturday 29 June. The event will be attended by the Archbishop of Catania Luigi Renna, the Imam of Catania Abdelhafid Kheit, Antonio Scavone, former regional councilor for Family, Social Policies and Labour, the councilor to Social Services, Social Inclusion and Family of the Municipality of Catania Bruno Brucchieri, the councilor for Public Education of the Municipality of Catania Andrea Guzzardi, the inspector of the Salesians of Sicily Giovanni D’Andrea, the president of Don Bosco 2000 (leader of the project ) Agostino Sella and Francesco Cauchi, advisor of the Tourability project.

A tree village specifically for children, six different paths immersed in nature with bridges and pulleys created between the trees, with walkways – some of which are wheelchair accessible – a climbing wall, and a path created for people with disabilities, the park is a few meters from the sea and is designed to involve everyone in a fun, safe and stimulating experience.

Beteyà Park joins the beaches already selected – ten to date between Catania and Palermo – by the Tourability project to promote the development of barrier-free tourist destinations. Reception services, support and creative workshops organized by Spazio 47 will be launched within the various accessible locations and training internships coordinated by CPIA Catania 2 are being launched which will involve 30 people with disabilities for targeted placement, 15 in Catania and 15 in Palermo on the beaches of the Plaia and Mondello coast and in other structures that will participate in the inclusion activities.
