Before getting back on his Desmosedici to tackle the Dutch GP in Assen, Jorge Martin returned to talk about the earthquake that shook the MotoGP rider market in the aftermath of the Italian GP at Mugello, when he caught everyone off guard by announcing his move to Aprilia in 2025 with a multi-year contract.
“For us what happened wasn’t that crazy. Maybe it was more crazy for the media with all these transfers, but in the end it’s just a signature – observed the Madrilenian in a chat with his AS colleagues – It’s clear that next year there will be many changes, but at this moment little changes. We have a very important year ahead of us and we have to work hard.”
By taking the reins of his future into his own hands, and anticipating Ducati’s decision on the official line-up with which to present itself at the start of next season, the current representative of the Pramac Racing team has not only unblocked the market, starting a sensational chain effect , but also put a cross on the idea of defending the colors of the Borgo Panigale factory team in the near future. A move which, on the one hand, left a certain bitter taste in Martin’s mouth, on the other, gave him the peace of mind needed to fully concentrate on the title fight.
“How much weight did this decision take away from me? Very. After trying for several years to make it to a team and ultimately not succeeding, there is some frustration at first, but this becomes motivation that I will use to win” He admitted Martinatormore focused than ever on his goal of ending the year as World Champion.
Knowing that Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez, his main rivals in the title fight, will share the Lenovo Ducati team’s garage in 2025 does not seem to worry the leader of the championship standings. “I don’t think it will affect me. I will work like a Ducati rider and try to fight for the victory. I hope there is nothing from Ducati” underlined Jorge, ready to return to action with the “peace of mind knowing that they won’t do anything against me and they will give me the same weapons as Pecco to fight for the World Championship”after having entertained “of conversations” with the men of Borgo Panigale.
Asked then whether he understood Ducati’s decision to focus on Marc Marquez, Martin commented: “It’s not a question of understanding or not. Ultimately it’s circumstances and things that happen. I don’t have much to prove anymore and there are things I can’t control. From there on, it’s about adapting and I’m very happy with what happened.”
For the 26-year-old, moreover, it was important to be master of his future and put himself in the best conditions to achieve his goals. “There are many factors that can alter my future and many that I cannot control, so I focused on what I can control, which is deciding where I would go next year – he concluded – I see that Aprilia is a company that will really give 100% for me and this motivates me a lot”.
