Murder Thomas Pescara, the father of one of the alleged murderers: “I don’t absolve myself, but no adult can really absolve himself”

Yesterday we covered the horrible tragedy that took place in Pescarawhere he was A seventeen-year-old was found dead after being stabbed by two minors. The latter would not have grown up in a situation of degradation: it is about children of a lawyer and a Carabinieri commander.

The desperation of man

It’s really intriguing relationship between the alleged murderers and the parents, who work for the law. The commander in question gave an interview to The Corriere della Sera in which he reflected oneducation. “Not only do I not absolve myself as a father, but I say that no adult here can really absolve himself. And I say that maybe it’s worse than how you’re portraying it. I will resort to believer’s words, borrowed from the Catholic faith. Whoever points the finger commits a sin,” she began.

And here’s what he sees in the his son’s future: “I would like him to live by improving his life from now on. I want him to keep in mind what happened over time, to keep alive the memory of the boy he saw die and to live up to it.”

“I can only say that it is very difficult to judge, I ask you to put yourself in my shoes. I asked him where he went and what he did, who his friends were and how they spent their time. The answer was reassuring and in some ways deceptive. He would tell me ‘I’m going out with my friend, the son of a lawyer’ or ‘I’m seeing that other guy, the son of one of your colleagues’. Should I have investigated further? Should I not have settled? I don’t have the answer and I allow myself to doubt anyone who does. This is not the time to judge, it’s the time to understand,” he added, desperately.

“Society’s gray area”

To comment on the facts Donatella Di Pietrantonio, writer finalist for the Strega award who lives and works in the Pescara area. “The indifference with which these actions following the murder were carried out is striking. A total lack of empathy and understanding of the gravity of the act committed,” she said.

“It is clear that on the occasion of these news episodes, this discomfort among young people emerges forcefully, which we find here on both sides. On the one hand, there is a boy who is fragile due to his family history, due to marginality, due to having also gone through the reality of juvenile prison. On the other, the opposite but complementary discomfort of young people who are children instead of well-being, of a middle class, but affected by an abysmal void, in which there is no space for the recognition of the other within themselves. No idea of the sacredness of another’s life. And then the crime committed with all these stabbings, as if it were a game, a virtual reality, almost a tragic performance after which you can go and do anything else, see your friends, have fun. As if nothing had happened, as if the taboo of the sacredness of the other’s body had not been broken”, this is his analysis.

“I would like to draw attention to that age group between 15 and 18 years old that constitutes a sort of grey area of society, where no alternative cultural proposals arrive. It is as if no one cares about them, they have no references. They are neither children nor adults. They are at the same time fragile and aggressive. Maybe you see them destroyed by the girlfriend who leaves them, but in a pack they become violent. In that age group, aggressive youth fashions often take root. These are kids who are missing some pieces, they have a hypertrophic but totally empty ego. Where the representation of the other from themselves is missing”, he concluded bitterly.
