Coldiretti tomorrow in Italian squares to save the fields from the damage caused by wild boar incursions. Even Abruzzo farmers ready to demonstrate in Pescara

From Emilia Romagna to Abruzzo to Sardinia, the Coldiretti mobilization goes from north to south with thousands of farmers in the streets to stop the invasion of wild boars. The appointment is for tomorrow, Thursday 27 June 2024, with the demonstrations scheduled in Bologna, Pescara and Cagliari, under the headquarters of the Region to ask for the immediate adoption of an extraordinary plan for the management and containment of wild fauna, with the application at local level of the measures envisaged by the interministerial decree, launched last year.
The new mobilization follows those already organized in Umbria, Lombardy and Calabria, with Coldiretti farmers who marched through the streets of Perugia, Milan and Cosenza with tractors and signs, to raise their cry of alarm regarding an out-of-control presence of wild boars which has taken on the contours of a real natural disaster. The regional leaders also intervened in all the cities and wanted to meet the farmers.

THE DEMONSTRATION IN PESCARA
Tomorrow’s demonstration in Pescara will take place with hundreds of farmers to ask for a change of pace on policies relating to plans to contain ungulates, which have so far proven ineffective.
The farmers’ rally is scheduled for 9am in Piazza della Repubblica, where starting from 10am the procession will move along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II to Piazza Unione: it is here that the rally is scheduled with the intervention of Coldiretti managers. There will be farmers from all the provinces, but also a garrison of tractors led by the organisation’s young agricultural entrepreneurs, as a symbol of the new generations who believe in Made in Italy agri-food.
The objective of the mobilization is to immediately apply at a regional level the measures envisaged by the inter-ministerial decree launched last year for the adoption of an extraordinary plan for the management and containment of wild fauna. The Region’s plan must include the active involvement of the owners and managers of the estates with licenses for hunting and the establishment of a body of volunteer guards at the provincial level, to fill the shortage of local police personnel with the possibility of also act in protected areas.

«It is an invasion that puts the countryside and the city at risk», claims Coldiretti Abruzzo. «It is essential to contain as soon as possible an invasion which in Abruzzo has become a real emergency with 100 thousand specimens free to move without obstacles, with a devastating impact on food production. The situation is critical in all provinces, with unbearable consequences for both companies and people.”

The alarm launched by Coldiretti concerns the countryside and the city, farmers but also citizens who want to contain a danger to the fields and roads. Among the reasons for the mobilization there are also the problems linked to downy mildew, which has severely penalized one of the main sectors of Abruzzo agriculture, currently in a state of crisis. And finally, a message to Europe: the invitation to give greater value to quality agricultural production and Made in Italy agri-food, considered «in danger due to the establishment of an alliance between large multinationals who want to destroy the Italian agri-food system with the complacency of Unionfood and Confagricoltura.»
