Massa Carrara, 26 June 2024 – The Apuan industry is still holding its own and continues to have a significant weight in personnel requests for the month of June but, as at the beginning of every season, it is trade and services that create the peak in demand for work: 2,120, in all, le hiring expected. Attention, we are dealing with a forecast and not a final figure, so the actual employment numbers may then be different, positively or negatively. But they are still data collected for the month of June 2024 on a sample of companies from the Excelsior information system, a survey carried out by Unioncamere in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies and elaborated by the Chamber of Commerce of North-West Tuscany and the Institute for Studies and Research (Isr), and therefore represent a key to understanding the economic situation of the province where the job market appears to be experiencing a phase characterized by significant challenges in finding qualified manpower, as highlighted by the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Valter Tamburini: “The growing difficulties in satisfying the demand for labor underline the importance of targeted and timely interventions to facilitate the connection between education and work. In response to this challenge we will shortly launch a tender, on which we have allocated 100 thousand euroswhich will offer economic incentives to companies that participate in transversal skills and orientation courses in collaboration with upper secondary education institutions connected to the production chains”.
But let’s see what are Massa Carrara companies looking for in June and what are the main sectors. Compared to the 2,120 expected hires, up 4% compared to June 2023, approximately 22% still concern the industry but the true figure is the 750 expected hires among merchants and employees in catering activities, 35% of the total. Despite a difficult start to the summer season in terms of weather, the sector seems to remain hopeful. However, it is a sector with many lights and shadows, as always: 41% are difficult to find staff and 61% of the positions offered are intended for young people up to 29 years of age, apprentices in short. We are 20 points above the average of other sectors on this aspect. Job opportunities also increase slightly in services, up by 60 units (+4%) compared to a year ago. Within the sector, the demands for personnel are accentuated especially in trade (260 entries).
