Rivers, red alert also in Modena: bridges closed all night – Society

For years Lapressa.it has offered free and independent information to its readers without any type of public contribution. Private advertising covers part of the costs, but it is not sufficient. For this reason we ask those who read us and follow us every day to give us, if they wish, a contribution based on their possibilities. Even a small support, multiplied by the tens of thousands of people from Modena and Emilia-Romagna who read us every day, is fundamental.

The bridges over the Secchia river in Modena remain closed for the night and will reopen as soon as conditions are right, on which, as a precaution, road traffic was suspended from the early hours of the day due to the rise in water levels for the heavy rains in the last 48 hours, especially in the mountains. These are Ponte Alto in Modena and Ponte dell’Uccellino between Modena and Soliera where the situation is monitored continuously.
Via Curtatona with the bridge over the Tiepido stream also remains closed, as does the old Navicello bridge along the branch of provincial road 255, which remains closed by the Province.
For the entire day of Wednesday 26 June, the Red alert for hydraulic criticality issued by the Regional Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection remains in force, while the Yellow alert for thunderstorms also continues.

The Secchia flood well exceeded threshold 3 at Ponte Alto, reaching 11.06 meters at 4.30 pm and is passing slowly. Reopening to traffic will be possible when the river level drops below threshold 2 which corresponds to 8 meters in Ponte Alto where, in the afternoon, Municipality technicians and Civil Protection volunteers intervened to remove round bales of hay that had been transported downstream and they risked slowing down the flow of water.
During the night, monitoring of the Panaro river and all the waterways of the Modena hydraulic node also remains active. The volunteers of the municipal civil protection group activated a motor pump on the Bernarda pit in Fossalta.

The flood, which is passing through Modena, will cover part of the lowland between the night and the morning of tomorrow.

This resulted in the closure of Ponte Motta in Cavezzo, on provincial road 468, to traffic, after the Navicello Vecchio bridge on provincial road 255 had already been closed yesterday as a precaution.

Monitoring continues on the embankments by Civil Protection technicians and volunteers and through the detection network connected to the operations room of the Unified Civil Protection Center in Marzaglia, awaiting the passage of the flood peak, expected today.

For civil protection, the single integrated operations room in Marzaglia is active.
Municipal technicians, Aipo technicians and Civil Protection volunteers are involved in monitoring the hydraulic node; the local police monitor the traffic. The coordination of the interventions is entrusted to the Coc, the municipal operations centre.
With the Red alert, citizens are advised to limit car travel to what is strictly necessary and to stay away from waterways, bridges and under-banked roads; not to use underground and basement floors and prepare to go to the upper floors if necessary. It is also suggested to group the most important personal effects that could be needed in the event of an evacuation (for example, house keys, money, identity documents, medicines, raincoats and spare clothing, bottle of water and torch) and to close, in that case, the gas, electricity and water utilities.
