LUCCA. Lorenzo Casini, professor in administrative law, will be the rector of the IMT School for the three-year period 2024-2027. He will succeed Rocco De Nicola, who led the School from 2021 to 2024. The new rector was elected by the academic community in the first electoral round which took place today 25 June 2024, obtaining the absolute majority of votes, equal to 214 votes out of 303 total votes. Casini received the favor of 22 professors, 55 researchers, 36 administrative technicians and 101 students. Therefore a rector strongly desired by the entire community of the IMT School of Advanced Studies Lucca. In total, 73.01% of those entitled to vote voted, for a total of 303 out of 415. There were 23 blank ballots. “I thank all the members of the IMT School community – comments Casini – not only for their trust and for the support, but also for the fundamental role that everyone, colleagues, researchers, administrative technicians and students, had in indicating the priorities for the next three years. The IMT School – continues Casini – is a strategic resource for Lucca, for the territory and for the country: it will be important to continue the path of integration with the city and increasingly internationalization of the School, strengthening the Campus system and enhancing all its professionalism .” Casini will formally take office on 1 November 2024, following the official appointment by the Ministry of University and Research. Since 2019, the rector has been elected by all the members of the IMT School. The vote is weighted according to the following percentages: 70% for professors, 15% for researchers, 10% for technical-administrative staff and 5% for students. Voting turnout was high from the early hours of the morning, at 12pm 70% of professors, 49.41% of researchers, 35.22% of students and 75.47% of technical staff had already voted administrative. At 2pm the figure was 86.67% (professors), 64.71% (researchers), 50.2% (students), 84.91% (pta). At 4pm, 93.33% of professors, 80% of researchers, 60.73% of students and 90.57% of PTA had voted. The final turnout figure recorded 96.67% of professors, 82.35% of researchers, 92.45% of PTA and 62.75% of students. 30 professors, 85 researchers, 53 administrative technicians and 247 students were entitled to vote.
