In Montevarchi, work will begin in the next few days to complete the Memorial, the rail-rubber interchange hub built on the border with the railway station. A very important intervention, which will involve investments of three million euros, money entirely financed with European funds from the Pnnr. Contracting authority, the Province of Arezzo. The project concerns the area that runs along the tracks of the railway line, between via IV Novembre and via Dante, therefore in the historic center. A main metal shelter will be built, covered with glass panels; a secondary shelter, covered with a glass system to protect people from the weather and a small building with a metal structure used as a ticket office. To meet the needs of both the bus drivers and those who will use the service, the project defined the flow of pedestrians who will reach the rail-rubber hub by creating, starting from the border with the Largo Alfredo Gori car park, a wider pavement and a shelter to protect from the weather. An illuminated path equipped with a pedo-tactile system will then be planned. Benches and rest areas will complete the whole work. In the period necessary to complete the works, it will be necessary to ensure the continuation of the public service, reactivating the spaces of the former bus station in Viale Diaz through redevelopment works of the area. Therefore, by ordinance of the municipal police, temporary changes to parking and traffic are foreseen to allow for road traffic safety.
From this point of view, starting from 7 am on Thursday 27 June to 8 pm on Friday 26 July 2024, a ban on parking and circulation will be established for all vehicles in the area of the former bus station between Viale Diaz and Via Sante. Tani, with the exception of municipally owned vehicles. There will also be limitations on transit and parking at the traffic light system via Sante Tani-viale Diaz. The area in which the “Memorial” will be located is at the center of a project developed in 2011, which saw the completion of the first lot, the bus stop, the following year. However, the interchange between iron and rubber was missing, given that we are on the border with the railway station, and intermodality with bicycles. We are talking about an area of over 6,300 square meters which includes the bus station, cycle and pedestrian paths and roads connecting to squares and streets.
