Detention in prison is not enough to stop Pancrazio Carrino’s violence. Yet another demonstration came in recent days, when the 42-year-old from San Pancrazio Salentino (Brindisi) physically attacked a judge: he lashed out at her, holding the handle of a sharp plastic fork that he had hidden between his fingers.

The episode occurred in the Terni prison during the warrant interrogation ordered by letter rogatory by the investigating judge of the Potenza court, Antonello Amodeo, signatory of the precautionary custody order in the context of the investigation into intimidation and violence, with the aggravating mafia, towards the investigating judge Maria Francesca Mariano and the prosecutor of the DDA Carmen Ruggiero and, in one case, the director of Telenorba Vincenzo Magistà.

In short, after the letters with death threats and the kid’s head and a knife left under the former’s house, just while he was behind bars, and therefore through “external” and still unknown help, this time Carrino managed to obtain and hide a rudimentary weapon without anyone realizing it and to use it against an administrator of justice.

The Perugia general prosecutor’s office, led by Sergio Sottani, also highlighted the news in a note explaining: “The immediate intervention of police personnel avoided worse consequences that could have resulted from the violent attack.” Following the incident, the hearing was suspended, and the man was reported to the Terni public prosecutor’s office, which coordinates the investigations conducted by the penitentiary police.

With this conduct, this individual has dispelled all doubts regarding the hypothesis (which had recently emerged) of his possible repentance, actually increasing the dose of his hatred towards the two professionals, the true “target” also of the last action , because they were held responsible for having dishonored him, having referred in the papers of the “The Wolf” investigation (in which he answers for mafia association) to an episode of sexual violence, of which he is considered the author, but which is not contested against him.

What is certain is that the story is alarming and highlights an issue whose resolution cannot be postponed any longer, once someone has lost their lives: insecurity in prisons.

The inadequacy of controls, resulting mainly from the shortage of prison police staff, can only facilitate the entry of narcotic substances and micro cell phones and allow dangerous inmates like Carrino the possibility of making use of “emissaries” or of personally holding the handle of a fork or an awl against the “inconvenient” judge on duty.

Previous episodes

It is not the first time that the 42-year-old has obtained a weapon in prison with the intention of attacking a magistrate. Last August, when he was still detained in the Lecce prison (as part of “The Wolf” operation), Carrino allegedly brandished a sharp metal object to prevent the prison police staff from taking him back to his cell after his hour of exercise. , and would have given one of the inspectors, during the interrogation with Judge Mariano, the awl and a piece of paper containing the latter’s name.

On another occasion, pretending to want to collaborate with prosecutor Ruggiero, he hid a rudimentary blade between his buttocks with the aim of cutting her throat during the interrogation. But the plan failed because the weapon was found and seized by the police.
