Ultra-broadband arrives in the Siena area

After the city center, the inhabitants of some districts of Siena will finally also be able to access a service that will allow them to surf in ultra-broadband. In fact, in the so-called “white areas”, the subject of the three Infratel tenders, Open Fiber has created, with the economic contribution of the Tuscany Region, an infrastructure that aims to reduce the digital divide.

In Siena the company has created a new ultra-broadband network which currently sees 1,449 real estate units that have the service available, already available to customers who request it, thanks to a new infrastructure which will remain publicly owned and will be managed in concession from Open Fiber for 20 years.

As part of the project, a nursery, the fire brigade headquarters, a primary school and the Arpat prevention department were connected. The hamlets involved in the project are Presciano, Taverne D’Arbia, Il Piano and Abbadia.

“We are creating – said the regional councilor for digital infrastructures, Stefano Ciuoffo – a series of networks that represent a sure leap in quality in the possibility of connecting to the global network. It is the declination of one of the principles enshrined in the regional statute because connectivity is an element of democracy that must be made available to everyone. We are now covering more than half of the territories we had set ourselves as an objective and we hope to complete all the planned interventions by 2026″.

“The intervention carried out – states Giuseppe Giordano, councilor for IT services and digital development of the Municipality of Siena – will allow many citizens to finally be connected with the new ultra-broadband technology, among other things also involving a nursery school. The Municipality of Siena has among its priorities precisely that of encouraging digital use through the most innovative technology, which allows residents to have services available and make the best use of electronic devices connected to the network with excellent performance, in addition to the ability to transmit a large amount of data with extremely limited losses over long distances.”

“Thanks to the support of the municipal administration and the Tuscany Region – comments Claudio Cardarelli, Regional Manager of Open Fiber Toscana – we are happy to have completed the works in Siena. Finally, citizens have an ultra-broadband network that is up to the challenges of the future.”

Open Fiber is a wholesale only operator: it does not sell fiber optic services directly to the end customer, but is active exclusively in the wholesale market. Interested customers will only have to contact an operator (among those present on the website www.openfiber.it), choose the tariff plan and navigate at a speed that is impossible to reach with the current copper or mixed fiber-copper networks.

When the user requests it, the selected operator will contact Open Fiber, who will then schedule an appointment with the customer, with the aim of bringing the optical fiber from the road shaft into the home.

At the end of the operation, the user will be ready to navigate at a speed of up to 10 Gigabits per second, and benefit from services such as online streaming in HD and 4k, teleworking, telemedicine, and many other opportunities generated by the network FTTH built by Open Fiber, enabling a true digital revolution.
