Vasco Brondi, one of the most influential voices of the Italian independent scene (already known for his impact with Le Luci Della Centrale Elettrica) arrives in Ancona with the tour in support of his second solo album “Un Segno di Vita”. The singer-songwriter will be the protagonist at the Ulisse Fest. In the new space of the Arena sul Mare, at the Porto Antico, Brondi will perform on July 4th starting at 9.30 pm.

A great Arena awaits you in Ancona…

«Music always finds spaces to express itself, and large arenas as well as small ones are always fundamental to maintaining contact with the public».

With what spirit do you undertake a journey of this type?

«Live music is more important than ever. It’s very powerful to see each other again, being together in the same place and at the same time is the true celebration of an album. We can say that the concert is truly the last true collective rite.”

His latest album “A sign of life”, he defined as “full of fires”. In your opinion, what kind of “light” do we need today?

«I only realized in retrospect that the songs contained in the album are real “fires in the night”, and I believe it was a reaction to the dark times we are living in. The CCCP said: “The situation is excellent”. They said this in the 80s when there were wars near and far. I don’t want to be afraid these days, and to not be afraid of the dark you need that light that the characters told in the album bring with them.”

“A sign of life” was also released with the book “Processing diary” (or small manual of unpopular pop)”: why this choice?

«While I was writing the record I noticed that there were things that overflowed from the songs. The book is a travel diary of the record, a kind of bildungsroman of the record, imagined things becoming real. The album was recorded in a high mountain refuge, in a basement in Milan, in the winter of Ferrara and other places. I liked that the album was released supported by these stories.”

You proposed “Illumina Tutto” for Sanremo 2024, with a clear mind, was that refusal a good or a bad thing?

«Maybe it was fate, I took things as they came. I accepted the decision as the right thing, with a bit of fatalism.”

Between his debut solo album and his second, approximately three years passed, an apparently very long time in these periods of music built and designed for streaming platforms. How important is it to take the time necessary to compose a new album?

«Yes, silence is essential before making music. We have introjected the machine model so much that we don’t need to follow this type of logic. For songs you have to wait for the initial spark, you have to wait for things to arrive in the right time.”

Now, after the summer tour, what plans are there for you?

«This year will be very challenging and I will live moment by moment. I want to have my head and body in the same place every night to do all the concerts. When they finish I will rest for a while and then we will see what happens in the future.”
