Florence, 24 June 2024 – Eike Schnmidt will be the leader of the opposition in Florence. He says it bluntly after the controversy of recent weeks also over what he would have done if he had not been elected mayor. Schmidt speaks at his headquarters.
“We are not sad, we had a great result, both in the first and second round – says Schmidt – It is the best result since 1999 even with the civic list which has the absolute record. So from today I will be the leader of the opposition. We gained a lot of ground in this runoff, more or less a percentage point. Replicate the comparison Galli-Renzi. I would like to thank those who fought with me in this electoral campaign with great plans for Florence that we would like to carry forward in the next five years as opposition”.
“We would like to carry forward our themes – says Schmidt – such as that concerning safety. Then a true protection of nature, a true ecology. We will also commit ourselves to this issue. We see with great concern what has happened to Bologna with 700 trees removed to build the tramway. We view with concern the PD’s plans to remove the greenery in Florence. If we can be incisive on these and other issues, then we will a good job“.
On the absolute number of votes “we are lower. But as a percentage we are higher. We had an excellent result, laying the groundwork for a strong opposition in the next five years. However, not all Italia Viva voters voted for Funaro”.
