MotoGP™ rider market 2025: confirmations and rumors

There are many contracts expiring at the end of 2024, as are the maneuvers that are taking place behind the scenes of MotoGP™ to establish who will be on the grid next year.

Who will be the pilots? What bike will they race with? And in which teams?

Here is the point of the current situation.

Someone has already moved. This is the case of Brad Binder, confirmed with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing colors even last year. He will remain in orange until 2026.

Even the reigning world champion, Francesco Bagnaia, has put his future on paper: he will continue with the Ducati Lenovo Team, which has already led him to two titles.

Like him, Fabio Quartararo has also chosen not to move on, who will remain with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ team.

Along with three extensions, there is something new: the arrival in Ducati of Fermin Aldeguer, now involved in Moto2™.

Luca Marini and Johann Zarco will remain on Honda until the end of next season: their two-year contracts with the Japanese brand began in 2024.

So far no twists. But here are the bombshells: Jorge Martin will be an Aprilia Racing rider from 2025, while Marc Marquez will join the Ducati Lenovo Team.

In addition to the number 89, Borgo Panigale will also lose Enea Bastianini, who will move to the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team together with the author of another sensational change: Maverick Viñales, who will team up with the Italian after leaving Aprilia. In the official team of the Noale manufacturer, Marco Bezzecchi will share the garage with Martin.

The two will ride the same RC16s as Pedro Acosta, promoted to the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team after 2024 with the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 colours.

There were three candidates to join Bagnaia in 2025: Martin, Bastianini and Marc Marquez. After weeks of analysis and evaluation, thanks to the announcement of Martin’s move to Aprilia in the wake of various indiscretions, the choice fell on the eight-time world champion.

Fabio Di Giannantonio, currently on track on the GP23s of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, is awaiting news on the bikes with which Valentino Rossi’s structure will line up in 2025. Ducati again? Official or not? What if they were Yamaha instead?

Finally, there are few rumors about Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) and Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™): who will they race with?

Jorge Martin will take the place of Aleix Espargaro, who will hang up his helmet at the end of the season.

On the other side of the garage, given Viñales’ farewell, a question mark with the tricolor flag in the background: Aprilia has made no secret of wanting to focus on an Italian. And in the end, here it is: in 2025 Marco Bezzecchi will arrive in Noale having signed a multi-year contract.

As for the Trackhouse Racing satellite team, there are few indications on the future of Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez.

With Binder, Pedro Acosta will be in the official garage of the Austrian brand (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), who is shining as a rookie.

The Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 team will become Red Bull KTM Tech3, moving from red to orange: the pair is new, with Bastianini (coming from Ducati) and Vinales (leaving from Aprilia).

Quartararo will stay where he is. And Alex Rins? He will have to show what he is worth on the track, after 2023 on Honda and the previous years with Suzuki.

The Iwata brand is looking for a satellite team, which has been missing since 2022: for the development of the M1, this appears to be a key move. First Pramac Racing and Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team seem to be the main candidates.

Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu LCR Honda) and Joan Mir (Repsol Honda Team) will have to be confirmed. In the meantime, the Japanese manufacturer must accelerate on the development front, to make the RC213V a sought-after motorcycle as it has been in the past.
