Lamezia, Lega city councilors: ‘Citizens look at differentiated autonomy without fear’

Lamezia Terme – The municipal councilors Lega Comune di Lamezia, Antonietta D’Amico and Antonio Mastroianni, in light of the numerous articles about the reform of differentiated autonomy approved a few days ago in the Chamber of the Italian Parliament, express, in a note, their thoughts and own position. “Given that everyone can freely express their position on such an important issue, however we believe it is right that it should be done with a bit of intellectual honesty. First of all – highlight the two councilors – it is necessary to underline that as it is conceived, differentiated autonomy simply implements art. 116 of the Italian Constitution. This already provides for the possibility for the Regions, who wish to apply it, to autonomously administer strategic sectors such as health, education and infrastructure, guaranteeing management. closer to the territory and its specificities, with consequent improvement of the services offered to citizens. This will not only respond better to the needs of the population, but will also stimulate local economic growth. It is worth remembering that 14 out of 15 regions already have ordinary statute they intended to undertake formal initiatives to request further conditions of autonomy on certain matters. With the exception of Abruzzo, which is in the evaluation phase, all the other Regions, both centre-right and centre-left, have expressed themselves with official documents in favor of Differentiated Autonomy”.

The objective for D’Amico and Mastroianni “is also to sensitize the Regions to a greater knowledge of their own potential and in order to make more prudent choices on the management of resources by triggering a virtuous process of making administrators responsible. Furthermore, the activation procedure of differentiated autonomy is not automatic; therefore, the Calabria region, like all other regions, will be able to freely choose whether to have greater autonomy in some important sectors or leave these powers to the Central State. Another important aspect is the services guaranteed by the State which they define the costs and standard requirements referring to the Lep – i.e. the essential levels of performance – this is precisely to protect the citizens of each individual Region. It is also worth remembering that this reform, which today is defined as “wicked”, has been promoted over the years convinced also by the left first in 2018 and later in 2001 even with the reform of Title V”. In conclusion, they invite “part of politics first to make peace with themselves and perhaps to find a common synthesis with the national line of their own party; we instead urge Calabrian citizens to look at this reform not with fear, but with awareness and confidence in one’s abilities and in the possibility of building a better future for our land”.
