A few days ago a meeting was held in Rome between the mayors of the Cosenza area and Minister Matteo Salvini on the High Speed issue in Calabria. The debate on the future route is therefore back in vogue which could change the fate of many cities, including that of Corigliano-Rossano but only if the ball is seized. He expressed his opinion on the issue Domenico Mazzapresident of the Magna Graecia Committee, who took this into account “of the senseless idea of diverting the railway route from the central area of the Region to the Tyrrhenian ridge”.

Mazza refers to what was said during the technical table at MIT, where the mayors of “Technical-political Committee AV CALABRIA” reiterated the absolute need to resume the original valley route proposed by RFI. The latter is the only itinerary capable of satisfying the needs and right to mobility of every area of the extreme tip of the peninsula”.

“High Speed in Calabria, also in light of the approval of the decree on differentiated autonomy, is a decisive issue for a Region that would like to acquire competitiveness at a national and European level. Even more, the route that we decide to choose will be fundamental to allow each territorial context of Calabria to perceive itself as an integral part of a system still too characterized by diseconomies and inequalities between one side of the Region and the other”.

Here then comes into play the third city of Calabria and whoever takes its place, namely Flavio Stasi. “I believe that now it is the Arco Jonico’s turn to make its voice heard. I suggest to the Mayor of Corigliano-Rossano, Flavio Stasi – continues Mazza -, considering the fact of having addressed the issue in question from the stages during the recent electoral campaign, to join the arm of his colleague from Crotone, Vincenzo Voce Mayor, to start a battle for dignity and progress for the entire Ionian area of north-east Calabria”.

Clearly a firm and intransigent stance, of the First Citizens of the two main cities of the Ionian Arc, cannot fail to involve the queuing of all the Mayors of Sibaritide and Crotone; both the coastal area and the internal one. Only in this way, perhaps, will it be possible to finally resolve a story, at times surreal, which risks dragging the most productive area of the Region into a spiral of denial (more than it already is) of the right to mobility”.
