Fraud against a woman over eighty and a couple

More cases of scams targeting the elderly in two separate circumstances in Reggio.

The state police arrested two people and placed them under house arrest while a third was reported to be at liberty.

The three are all of Campania origins.

In the first episode, a lady in her eighties was reached by multiple phone calls on the two telephone accounts in her possession and informed of a serious road accident caused by her son who needed a sum of money to avoid imprisonment.

Dazed by the news, and blocked for more than an hour and a half on the two telephone lines to prevent her from asking for help from others, the elderly woman gave the telephone operator’s accomplice, who arrived a few moments later at her home, 120 euros in cash and jewels worth a few thousand euros. The woman then, worried by the strange situation, decided to interrupt the conversation and inform a friend of hers who, having immediately noticed her scam, alerted the police. In short, the Flying Squad investigators managed to identify the car used by the person responsible for the scam and report it to their colleagues from the Sala Consilina Traffic Police who blocked the vehicle with the subject on board, reported for fraud in collaboration with unknown persons.

A second case, completely similar, risked turning into something much more serious for an 87-year-old man living in the city center with his 77-year-old wife. The criminals, who arrived at the couple’s home and always using the same ruse, managed to take possession of 2 thousand euros in cash and jewels weighing almost 200 grams.
The husband, realizing that it could be a scam, attempted to recover his assets, provoking the reaction of the criminal who, in order to escape, violently pushed the elderly man to fall to the ground, causing a head injury and a head injury. . The Flying Squad policemen, in this case too, quickly identified the car in which the perpetrators were travelling, who, in the meantime, had moved to the Catania area where they were blocked in their car. The subsequent search carried out in the B&B where they had stayed allowed the entire loot to be recovered. The two were placed under house arrest on charges of improper robbery and personal injury.
