Over 86% are represented by joint-stock companies while 7.7% are cooperatives. Small businesses (10-49 employees) represent 42.8% of the total businesses surveyed by the Ministry but the distribution of turnover is almost entirely dominated by medium and large businesses which together produce over 93% of the total turnover.

Private security in the South and in Campania. According to Istat data, in 2022 339 companies operating in surveillance and investigation services were active in Campania, for a total of 8,682 employees. Naples occupied first place at a regional level with 3,521 employees for 198 companies, followed by Avellino 3,237 employees for 36 companies, Salerno 1,161 employees for 51 companies, Caserta 710 employees for 44 companies and, finally, Benevento 53 employees for 10 companies. Campania is in third place in terms of number of people employed in the sector, 9% at national level, and is the second region in terms of number of companies (59 and 13.2% of the total), preceded only by Puglia (15.2%) and followed by Lazio (12.1%).
