Feast of St. John. Grand finale of solidarity

Grand finale for the San Giovanni Fair which will end today, on the day in which Cesena celebrates its patron saint. It will therefore be the time for religious celebrations in honor of Saint John the Baptist: in the Cathedral, at 10am, Bishop Douglas Regattieri will preside over the pontifical mass. The Schola ‘Santa Cecilia’ directed by maestro Gianni Della Vittoria will sing the Missa ‘Salve Regina’ for four voices by Valeriano Tassani. On this occasion, one of the cathedral’s great choirs preserved in the Malatestiana Library will be exhibited. Also in the Duomo, at 9pm, maestro Gianni Della Vittoria will hold an organ concert. On the secular side however, starting from the afternoon, solidarity will be the protagonist at the Public Gardens, which will host ‘L’inclusion in festa’, an event organized by Anffas, Cils, the Anffas sports club and Cisa. From 5.15pm there will be free experiential workshops for children and there will be moments of entertainment by the ‘Blue Dragon’, while Welldone will offer a snack. A representative from the Anti-Discrimination Help Desk will also be present. From 8pm live music with ‘Gli altri’ by Aveac followed by ‘Smiusical’, staged by Polisportiva Anfass. In case of bad weather the event will be recovered on a later date. For information call 327 6048810. For those who want to try their hand at swing dancing, the appointment is at 7pm in the Serravalle Gardens, where the Swing Road dance school of Cesena will offer a free trial lesson. At 9pm, however, The Andy Macfarlane Two Man Orchestra will arrive on stage and perform a rock’n’roll and blues repertoire. Full of entertainment, as usual, are the Via dei Musicanti Magici (i.e. Fantaguzzi, Strinati, Righi and Albizzi streets), with performances of acrobatics and illusionism shows. At 8.30 pm, the historical procession of the Giostra di Cesena association will return, which will present the 2024 edition of the tournament with costumed figures and an auctioneer who will declaim the announcement of the joust through the streets of the centre. From 9pm the fast-paced rhythms of the Irish tradition and of the Pizzica arrive with the traveling concert organized by Progetto ‘Balla la Pizzica Cervia’. Finally, at 9pm on the stage of the Cloister of San Francesco there is the program ‘Happiness for dummies – Happiness for denied people’, a monologue by Roberto Mercadini promoted by the Cesena Sarsina Diocese.
