“Police will increase controls and supervision” – BitontoLive.it

We publish the note signed by the regional councilor for transport and sustainable mobility, Debora Ciliento, on the vandalism and criminal acts that have been taking place for months on the railway line managed by Ferrotramviaria.

“With a detailed note, the Ferrotramviaria company, on Friday 21 June, informed that in the last 50 days there have been sixteen thefts of copper cables in signaling systems, criminal acts which have serious consequences on railway traffic, despite the prompt intervention of the technicians of the company, but which also cause economic damage. The company has long denounced the succession of criminal acts and vandalism along their railway lines. Like the numerous infringements at level crossings, both for violations of the highway code and for breaking down barriers and damage to infrastructure. In all these cases, the sudden suspension of railway traffic is inevitable for the safety of all citizens, who however must suffer numerous and continuous inconveniences. On these issues, to the extent of our competence, I started a discussion, in the shortest possible way, with the company and with the railway police, committed to increasing controls and supervision, as well as undertaking any further initiatives. We also put forward the hypothesis of opening a table to better analyze the phenomena, monitor the situation and find shared solutions. But the most important invitation is naturally to citizens to be attentive and respectful of the community’s assets, since significant sums of public money are invested in the railway infrastructure. Mine is therefore an invitation to legalitybecause due to the vandalistic and criminal actions of a few, those who pay the consequences are all those citizens who use the train as a means of daily transport and who have to suffer continuous inconveniences.”
