News: Tennis, great success for “DonoDay” between sport, emotion and awareness

The spectacle on the pitch, the testimonies, the stories but above all the desire to shout at everyone to say that yes that can change your life. The second national tennis tournament “DonoDay” was a great success, organized by the Italian Sports Center Committee of Salerno, in collaboration with the Sportello Amico Trapianti and the Uosd. Health Promotion of the Salerno Local Health Authority. In addition to the industry associations ANED and Aido, and the patronage of the Campania Regional Transplant Center, the Carisal Foundation and Banca Campania Centro were present in support of the event. The athletes of the National Transplanted Tennis Team of ANED Sport competed on the court, having won numerous medals at the 2023 Perth World Championships, who are touring Italy and the world to demonstrate how after the transplant one can once again have a full and full of satisfactions. Luca Colli, Claudia Graziani, Francesco Fiore, Marta Nizzo, Davide Savian, Vincenzo Casimo, Roberta Borrelli and Davide Bonetti drew applause from the audience. The doubles tournament was won by Luca Colli and Marta Nizzo while Davide Savian took first place in the singles: “The victory is important but even more important is being here to testify how important organ donation is. Otherwise everyone we national athletes wouldn’t be here today.”

“We are really proud – declared the president of CSI Salerno, Teresa Falco – to have hosted this event that combines sport and social life. The CSI of Salerno enthusiastically welcomed the initiative to raise awareness of such an important issue”. The awards ceremony was attended by the president of the sports commission for the Municipality of Salerno, Rino Avella, the vice president of the sports commission Pino D’Andrea, the municipal councilor Vittoria Cosentino and Roberto Manzo, councilor of the Cassa Rurale di Battipaglia Foundation, as well as and, naturally, Roberta Borrelli, from the Sportello Amico Trapianti ASL Salerno, soul of the entire event: “The objective was to represent how sport, which has always been a training ground for life, can be an opportunity for rebirth and how thanks to transplant of organs, these athletes can now return to the fields and compete at an international level. An event organized to raise awareness on the topic of organ and tissue donation, which to this day is affected by cultural legacies and fake news, as emerges from the data from the gift index (www.trapianti.gov.it), in which Campania is nineteenth out of 21 Italian regions, underlining how in order for there to be a transplant it is necessary to say YES to the declaration of willingness to donate organs and tissues to the renewal and / or issuing of an identity card. The balance of this second tournament is certainly positive, the appointment is for the next edition.”
