Faced with facts like this, there are no comments that can describe the behavior of Latina’s employer. But a reflection must be made: that of a total absence of those who should control, denounce and repress facts that everyone knows. How many newspaper articles and television investigations have we seen on gangmasters and their management of a criminal placement that manages these invisible people, without any possibility of being able to assert the normal trade union rights of a democratic country. Where are the labor inspectorates and what do they do? Nothing.
They say they have little staff, so why doesn’t politics provide the carabinieri, the police, the army to put an end to this “rubbish”? Many governments have followed one another and nothing has been done concretely: gentlemen senators, gentlemen deputies, you talk about fighting tax evasion, well these agricultural employers don’t pay contributions, they report what to the tax authorities? There are agricultural contracts and they provide for flexible times, daily calls and lower contributions to be paid than those of industry but these entrepreneurs, who are not satisfied, damage the State and all those agricultural companies that behave according to the laws.
We have witnessed an act of barbarity that we cannot describe, it is so serious; a fact that moves the lips of politicians: many verbal condemnations, but a lot of hypocrisy in the resulting concrete actions. We need checks on finance, daily attendance, contractual forms, training and accident prevention. And first and foremost respect for human dignity.
