Vicenza, 23 June 2024 – Night of bad weather in Veneto, landslides and floods due to the torrential rains that never stop falling. Torrents flooded in Vicenza and in the province of Verona, roads blocked on Dolomites: here the boulders have invaded the regional road 50 which connects Fonzaso (Belluno) with the Trentino Alto Adige and the provincial 40involved by Lamon landslide.
Beyond 60 requests for help arrived at the fire brigade tonight for the flooding that occurred between Asiago, Gallio and Schio. Flooding also in Peschiera del Garda due to difficulties in discharging into the Mincio. It’s still raining, especially in the Vicenza area Posina. Here’s what happened.
“Due to the storms of the night and still ongoing – says the governor Luca Zaia on social media – there have been widespread flooding of buildings in Asiago and Gallio, a landslide near a house in Schio, a landslide in the municipality of Lamon. The Sr 50 of the Rolle pass was closed from Moline to the roundabout for Canal San Bovo due to water and stones in the road”.
The alarm went off around 4 in Vicenza – Between Asiago and Gallio – where the heavy rains that hit the two municipalities caused a lot of damage. Beyond 60 calls to the 115 operations room for the flooding of two streamsthe greatest damage was recorded especially for flooding of streets, shops, basements, garages and rooms located below street level.
The Asiago firefighters, who were the first to arrive in the middle of the night, were then joined by support teams from Vicenza and volunteer staff from the Thiene and Recoaro detachments. The situation is now improving, with the watercourses flowing within the riverbeds again and there is no news of people were injured.
In the area of SchioInstead, the firefighters intervened for one landslide in Contrà Masetto and to clear the road that leads from San Rocco di Tretto to the town of Schleden, where during the night a fallen tree on the ring road blocked traffic. Other interventions involved flooding of the basement and rooms below the ground floor.
Shortly after dawn today, however, the Feltre firefighters and the Veneto Strada technicians had to intervene in the municipality of Overmount (Belluno) due to a washout of debris: the boulders detached from the mountain and invaded the roadway of the regional road 50 which connects the Belluno town of Fonzaso with the town of Predazzo, in Trentino Alto Adige. Similar intervention also on the Trentino side of the road.
Not much before 6the firefighters of Lower Feltrino they then intervened on another landslide Lamonalong the Sp 40. Also in this case, a Veneto roads vehicle intervened to clear the carriageways.
