On the night of June 23, i carabinieri of the provincial command of Cosenza and Salerno, coordinated by the Catanzaro General Prosecutor’s Office, after months of complex investigations they arrested Luigi Galizia, recipient of a detention order issued by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic at the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro on 28 December 2023.
Galizia, definitively sentenced to life imprisonment for the double murder of Edda Costabile and Ida Attanasio which occurred on 30 October 2016, had been unavailable since December 2023 before the judges of last instance made the life imprisonment sentence irrevocable for the crime known as the “San Lorenzo del Vallo massacre”, double murder committed in the cemetery of the small town of Cosenzawhere Galizia Luigi had killed Attanasio Francesco’s mother and sister with numerous gunshots, to avenge the killing (by the latter) of his brother Galizia Damiano.
After more than six months of hiding, as a result of complex investigations, carried out with competence and confidentiality by the soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of San Marco Argentano, coordinated by the General Prosecutor’s Office of Catanzaro, the lifer on the run was tracked down and captured inside a house in Sala Consilina.
The dangerousness of the subject required careful planning of the intervention and the preparation of quite a few security measures: when he was identified and stopped he did not resist and was unarmed. According to what we learn from investigative sources, Galizia had a partner and the carabinieri would also have reached him by following his movements. After his capture, Galizia was taken to Salerno prison to serve his final life sentence.
