ANCONA A platform for the festivals at the court of the Mole Vanvitelliana. Six meters by four, without a rise. Resting on the ground, with wooden beams (exposed) to lay flat on the stone floor. «It wasn’t what we expected» complain the organizers of the La Punta della Libngua festival, which will debut next Thursday and Saturday with two poetry shows. «We can’t have anyone perform there» thunders Giancarlo Di Napoli, president of the Ancona Jazz Summer Festival.
The revolt
It is aimed at the city’s cultural operators who had been promised a stage for their initiatives and instead found themselves, a few days after the start of the events, with a platform that would not have been enough even for a parish event. A disgrace on the part of the Municipality, which among other things financed those same festivals through the culture tender. The sad image of the bare platform, left in a corner of the courtyard, where once stood the stage that hosted some of the greatest national and international artists, has made the rounds on social media. «At least if I fall I don’t even get hurt» ironically commented the actor Andrea Caimmi who will bring the theater show Korpus Polski to the stage on Wednesday evening.
The setups
Among other things, the Municipality has not even planned further installations. No ring lights, no American lights. «But at least we knew this – Di Napoli continues -. We have already pre-alerted our sound engineers to also prepare an adequate lighting setup. But there is no question that we can perform on that platform, we have two bands on July 1st and 2nd, seven and six musicians complete with piano, drums and double bass. And where do we put them?”. «We have already had to negotiate with the artists due to the fact that the lighting system will have to be minimal – continue the organizers of La tip della lingua -, but in those conditions nothing can be done. We immediately contacted the mayor and he assured us that he will resolve the issue.” So yesterday Daniele Silvetti was bombarded with phone calls. «Stop everyone, that platform will go away. We will rent a proper stage” assured the mayor.
The short circuit
The chaos was generated by a short circuit in the municipal offices. “A mistake” admits the mayor. «We are already moving to rent a structure as requested by the organizers» Silvetti was keen to underline. The problem arises from the fact that the Municipality’s giant stage was mounted in the Roman amphitheatre. Another raised platform is in Piazza del Papa. And for the Mole, in the end, only that remnant of warehouse. Even the mayor was frozen at the sight of that platform. “There is no doubt that a real stage should be put there – he specified – measuring 6 by 8 metres”. Except now the Municipality will have to speed up as much as possible, for the first show is Wednesday evening.
