An hour late but, finally, the spectacle of the burning island has begun. The bad weather risked ruining what is the longest night of the summer in Ossuccio, during which the sky above the Zoca de l’Oli lights up for thirty long minutes, leaving the stage for the pyro-musical show, the highlight of the Feast of San Giovanni.
It was the fault of the heavy rain which, shortly after 10pm, began to fall throughout Tremezzina (and our province in general) while everything was ready for the great spectacle of the fire on the island. Bad weather delayed the start of the show by at least an hour
At 10.30pm, the start time, the fires did not start as expected. The program was late and the people, who had gathered in large numbers, started to boo. Also because for 40 minutes there was a complete lack of communication on the possible decision from the organizers. After 11pm the rain stopped and the stars even appeared behind the San Primo. Despite this, the wait continued until the new start was finally announced: 11.30 pm.
In the meantime, however, many boats had already left the area of the island. And the protests from the people who gathered were also loudly heard
The program includes 500 fiery red torches that will commemorate the burning of the Comacina island by Barbarossa (an ally of the Como people) on 24 June 1169.
The Regina state road has been closed to traffic between Colonno and Lenno since 8pm and the parking spaces (and for motorbikes) made available through tremezzinatourism have been literally pulverized.
