The Lions restore the memory of the massacre

“In the autumn of 2012” recalls the Lions President, Luca Lunardini, “the Club, then led by the late Gianfranco Parenti, wanted to remember the victims of the massacre with a poster placed in front of the Hotel Plaza, at the time the headquarters of the Lions. of time and bad weather had progressively deteriorated the work to the point of making it almost illegible. The Club decided to finance its restoration, entrusting the work to the master Emilio Cinquini who executed the work impeccably. Remembering that terrible night is a duty and a need of every fellow citizen and the Lions immediately wanted to contribute to supporting the memory and condolences for the event. It is no coincidence that already in the months immediately following the massacre the Tuscan Lions wanted to create the monument that today everyone can see in the nearby Parco degli Angeli. via Ponchielli. Monument also undergoing restoration in view of the next anniversary of 29 June.

I heartily thank the President, Daniele Rombi, and other representatives of the Mondo che Diritti association, for their presence this morning at the unveiling of the renewed poster. Their action as a victims’ association was and is simply indispensable. Viareggio does not forget”
