“Crocodile tears are useless: Occhiuto should move from words to deeds and challenge the law on differentiated autonomy”.

Statements by the Regional Councilor of Calabria Francesco Ernesto Alecci on Differentiated Autonomy:

Alecci states: “I believe the time has come for him to side with us on the side of the Calabrians, trying to stop a reform that will split Italy irreparably.”

Crocodile tears are useless, they lead to nothing! At this point the only thing President Occhiuto can do to stop the secessionist drift desired by the Government is to challenge the unfortunate law on Differentiated Autonomy before the Constitutional Court.

Alecci spares no criticism of President Occhiuto, defining his words on the sidelines of the approval of the law in the Chamber as a mockery of the Calabrians. According to Alecci, it is useless now to talk about a mistake by the national centre-right, given that Occhiuto is Deputy National Secretary of Forza Italia and has always defended this reform in all institutional and public forums, while ambiguously stating that some changes were needed .

“And then President Occhiuto only has one option left, and that is to move from words to deeds by challenging the law as soon as it is published”, continues Alecci. This faculty, constitutionally recognized to the Regions, falls within the exclusive competence of the President and the regional council.

Alecci suggests that Occhiuto could ask for the political coverage of the entire Council on the proposition of the appeal, which they certainly would not shy away from, on the contrary! The reservations expressed by the President, including the financing of LEP (Essential Performance Levels), require the pronouncement of a qualified “third party body”, such as the Constitutional Court.

“I believe the time has come to finally side with us on the side of the Calabrians and try to stop a reform that will split Italy irreparably, creating an unbridgeable gap between citizens of the North and citizens of the South. It is the last and only opportunity left to the President to try to stop the decline towards which the South will quickly move when the law is implemented”, concludes Alecci.

The Regional Councilor underlines the urgency of this action, considering it as the last chance for President Occhiuto to concretely demonstrate his commitment to safeguarding the interests of the South and of Calabria.>>
