Confesercenti Salerno, Esposito: “Peripheral destinations in decline. Summer doesn’t take off”

The president of Confesercenti Salerno, Raffaele Esposito, underlined that the tourist season is rewarding only the cities of art and not the peripheral areas of the Salerno province. He highlighted that the beaches, although award-winning, are almost always empty during the week, with businesses having to rely on local tourism due to the lack of international tourist flows. Esposito also underlined the need to increase tourist flows from abroad in a constant and significant way, rather than limiting themselves to short one-day excursions. The greatest critical issues are found in coastal Cilento and in the Gulf of Policastro, despite the promotion campaign of the Campania Region. Esposito said that although foreign flows are recovering, the slow start to the tourist season for many provincial destinations requires a common, wide-area strategy to encourage international tourist flows. Confesercenti is collaborating with other provincial entities to create a large body that will deal with the promotion of a strategy that will be developed by experts, in order to support local businesses also in the chamber of commerce. Esposito concluded by underlining that it is essential to know the carriers and routes that affect the Salerno airport to best promote the province of Salerno abroad.
