MANIAGO – A little girl from Maniago found a few hundred euros on the ground and handed over the large sum to an adult, who promptly made it available to the local police, who launched an appeal, through institutional channels, to identify the legitimate owner.

The behavior of those who discovered the little treasure without a name and without clues would be to begin a frantic search for the owner. «A great example of civic sense – commented the commander of the local police, Luigino Cancian -: in this matter, obviously, we cannot provide any useful information, because since it concerns cash it is essential that the owner comes to us reporting every single aspect of what happened to him: the sum of money he says he lost, the denominations from which it was made, the area where he fears the unfortunate episode may have occurred. Precisely for this reason, in the praetorian notice board he only reported that a sum of cash was found.” In short, to regain possession of the money, adequate justifications must be provided, so as to avoid actions by some unscrupulous opportunists.

HISTORY

«It is truly a pleasure to come across these people – continued the head of the local police, which has jurisdiction over six municipalities in the foothills, even if the event occurred precisely in the territory of the lead body, Maniago, the only element that can be spread to at least allow us to limit the area where the “loser” went -: when cash is found without a document accompanying it, it is often pocketed by whoever discovers it. The cases in which they are delivered to us are very rare – underlined Cancian -. As for the current situation, the reconstruction was given to us by a man: he reported having met a little girl, who had found the large sum of money on the ground and made it available to him, not knowing what to do. It was the first time something like this had happened to her.”

THE GESTURE

A gesture that betrays all the admirable honesty of the little girl, who didn’t run out to eat ice cream with her friends, but was busy looking for an adult who would advise her on what to do. This male subject – of whom no other details are provided, for privacy reasons, although he is the protagonist of an honorable gesture – first tried to understand if there was anyone in the area who was looking for something and, then, seeing that his The search was unsuccessful, he went to the police station to deliver the money to the lost property office. In these situations, it can be really difficult to trace the owner without a wallet. Maybe the person who lost them had just taken them out and, when putting them in his pocket, he didn’t notice that the banknotes fell to the ground. In any case, all the information was recorded together with the sum found, the details of the person who delivered it, and the place where you saw the money. In these circumstances, by law, the Municipality – as it has done in recent days – must make known the discovery of the money in the online register. If within one year from the date on which the notice was last published no one has shown up, i.e. no one has claimed and proven to be the owner of the money, the money will belong to the finder. Who, given her impeccable behavior up to now, we are persuaded will certainly go to the area of the city where he met the little girl and, at the very least, will share the sum with her, if he ever manages to recognize her in twelve months.
