From 1 to 6 July the women’s U22 European Championship in Lecce and Copertino
The great international volleyball returns to Puglia, hosting the final phase of the women’s U22 European Championship. Salento will reopen its doors to European volleyball, with Lecce and Copertino ready to make their passion and warmth felt, in particular towards the Italians led by Marco Mencarelli who will arrive in Puglia in search of the continental title.
Italy is included in Pool 1 together with Latvia, Turkey and Ukraine with the matches valid for the group stage scheduled from 1 to 3 July while in the other group the Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal and Serbia will seek the two passes for access to the semi-finals which will be played on Friday 5 July at the “San Giovanni da Copertino” sports hall in Lecce as well as the matches on the final day with the final scheduled for 9pm on Saturday 6 July.
The event is organized with the support of the Puglia Region, Department of Sport, the Province of Lecce and the Municipalities of Lecce and Copertino.
Free access for the matches scheduled from 1st to 3rd July, while the online ticket office for the matches on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th July in Lecce will be activated in the next few days, it will also be possible to purchase tickets for the last two days at the box office Lecce sports hall.

Puglia regional selections in Calabria for the Regions Trophy
The Trophy of the Regions, now in its 16th edition, will be held from 24 to 28 June between Rossano Calabro and Corigliano, also branded this year as the AeQuilibrium Cup, the final stage of the journey of the regional selections from all over Italy who have worked throughout the year with its technical staff. The intense planning of the CQR Puglia has led to the selection of the two groups that will be engaged in Calabria.
The coach Angelo Polignano traces the path of the Apulian women’s regional selection: “We face this Regions Trophy, as always, with the idea of measuring ourselves and doing the best we can. We certainly have the priority of improving last season’s result and the girls have worked tirelessly in the last six days of college for this.
I feel like giving particular praise to them and to all the girls who, at different moments of the season, shared part of the journey with us. The human material is there and we have a duty to give them the opportunities they deserve.
There is certainly a great desire to work on the part of the athletes but also of the Apulian clubs to whom we owe heartfelt thanks for the availability and attachment to the qualification activity that they have always shown us”.
After the work done by collegians throughout the year, the men’s selection is preparing for its Regions Trophy with the desire to do well, as declared by the men’s Puglia coach Giovanni Stomeo: “We are now on the eve of the two tournaments that we are going to play in Calabria. The first, the so-called Tre Mari, will take place on Saturday and Sunday, with the Regions Trophy starting immediately on Monday. Over all these months, the boys have really followed the training process with a lot of attention and commitment. I am really satisfied. I really hope that we can get a good result and certainly our goal is to improve the ranking position. We go to Calabria confident and aware that in any case there has already been a notable technical, physical and, I underline, character and behavioral improvement of the boys. Let’s see what happens, I repeat, I am very confident, the commitment will not be lacking as will the desire to do well.”
