Crotone, threats and invectives against the mayor Voice on TikTok. The council doesn’t agree: “Legality must be defended”

A deplorable episode and one to be condemned. There are no other words for what was suffered by the mayor of Crotone Voce, the target of a series of invectives rained down through TikTok. The reply from the Pythagorean municipal council was not long in coming. «In expressing solidarity and closeness to our mayor for the insults and threats received via social media», we read in a joint note from the Crotone councilors, «which we condemn without reservations in light of this latest episode, we believe some further considerations are appropriate. The first concerns the man and the mayor. By living everyday life with him we have learned to know him and we are certain that he feels bitterness and concern above all for his collaborators as well as, naturally, for the loved ones in his family. For all those people who share principles of legality and transparency with him. The other aspect we want to underline is that relating to the fact that these latest episodes, as well as others that occupy spaces on social media every day, cannot be simply dismissed as “notes of colour”. Insults and, even worse, threats are serious and should be condemned. A community cannot deviate from this principle. Otherwise we would all be defeated. For this reason we will continue to denounce these facts so that those who commit them assume their responsibilities before the law. Not only to defend a mayor, an institution but above all a principle of legality and civil life. We are certain that all the institutions, in addition to sharing our thoughts, will be able to protect and defend these principles through the adoption of every appropriate measure”.
