Businessman attacked in the historic center of Ragusa, police report and expel young Moroccan man

A 27-year-old Moroccan citizen was identified and reported at liberty by the Ragusa Police for the crimes of damage, threats, beatings and resisting a public official. The intervention of the police took place in recent days, when the Operations Room received a report regarding a man in a rage in Piazza San Giovanni. The subject had attacked the owner of a restaurant located in the city center.

Upon the arrival of the Flying Squad officers, the man attempted a hasty escape, giving rise to a daring foot chase through the alleys of the historic center. With many difficulties, the police managed to stop him. During the arrest, the Moroccan resisted, threatening and insulting the officers. Investigations revealed that the man, together with a still unidentified accomplice, had wanted to sit at an already booked table in a restaurant. When the staff refused, he reacted violently, pushing and threatening an employee. Furthermore, it emerged that the Moroccan had damaged parked cars on the same evening.

The twenty-seven year old was found to be illegal on the national territory. Therefore, subject to authorization from the Judicial Authority, an expulsion decree was issued with simultaneous detention at the Caltanissetta Repatriation Permanence Centre.

This episode is connected to another event that occurred a few days earlier, again in the historic center of Ragusa Superiore. A shopkeeper in via Mariannina Coffa had been attacked by a non-EU citizen following a series of violent behaviors fueled by alcohol and nighttime noise. The territorial president of Confimprese Iblea, Peppe Occhipinti, expressed concern for the image of the city, especially at the beginning of the summer season, and thanked the police for their timely intervention. However, Occhipinti criticized the ineffectiveness of the anti-bivouac ordinance, often ignored, and denounced the degradation of the historic center, highlighting the presence of homes illegally rented to immigrant citizens and the lack of control of public areas.

Confimprese Iblea has requested a more incisive intervention from the Prefect and greater joint control to guarantee safety and public order. The solidarity and closeness of Confimprese were expressed to the attacked trader, while the local authorities are called to intervene decisively to resolve these problems and guarantee a safe and welcoming environment for residents and tourists.

These events underline the urgency of strengthening security measures in Ragusa, especially during the summer, when the city welcomes numerous visitors. It is essential that local authorities collaborate effectively to maintain public order and improve the quality of life in the historic centre.
