BOB FEST 2024: Calabria has never been so good

Each craftsman can choose to be one without relating to the outside world, remaining focused on his own art, confined to his own creative habitat. But what good would such a separation do? Without thinking too much, for little or nothing.

Here because Roberto Davanzoowner and pizza chef of Bob Alchimia a Spicchi, pizzeria in Montepaone (Catanzaro) – which he runs with the support of his other half, Anna Rotella – several years ago he launched the format for the first time BOB Festan opportunity to open the doors of your home and welcome pizza chef friends from all over Italy, artisans of taste like him, but also communicators of the pizza world, pastry chefs, winemakers, and he does so, as well as inspired by the desire to propose a high-class event again enjoyment rate for i foodies made in Calabria (and not only), in memory of the father, opening up the precious opportunity to support cancer research, nurturing a real sense of community that develops around food: from the heart of the individual, to the needs of others.

However, this is only the embryo of what we are preparing to experience in just over a week not many km from Montepaone: destination Calabria, destination BOB FEST 2024.

So take note of why Sunday 30 June and Monday 1st Julythe eyes of Italy “to be bitten” will be entirely focused on this magnificent region, whose still too silent beauty is finally destined to shine, to be savored by visiting unique places, the headquarters of this edition of the festival.

Not only that: thanks to the substantial schedule developed by Roberto and his amazing team, it will be this very land that will become the home of a dense group of pizza chefs, chefs, pastry chefs and bar tenders coming from every corner of the Good Country. Guests, of course, but first and foremost friends, there Band of Brothers will find itself – to begin with – Sunday 30 Junestarting from 7.00 pminside the Scolacium Museum and National Archaeological Park in Borgia, in the province of Catanzaro, granted by the Calabria Regional Museums Directorate.

A majestic, immense surface, steeped in history, within which the greatest masters of dough will move and create, a multitude of chefs who will lead us to discover traditions from everywhere, and then the street food experts, the big names in the irresistible Italian pastry. Any names? It’s impossible to mention them all – there are so many – but in the meantime they have responded to the appeal Alfio Ghezzi, Sarah Cicolini, Antonio Biafora, Caterina Ceraudo, Edoardo Traverso, Gianfranco Pascucci, Luca Abruzzino, Eugenio Roncoroni, Massimiliano Prete, Lorenzo Sirabella, Riccardo Paglia, Roy Caceresand on and on and on many more.

Each of them will be given a station where they will propose a version of their dish Street food; then, many and many stands dedicated to local gastronomic excellence, talks, masterclasses, live music, all included in a single entry ticket (available at a cost of €125/€100 in advance; the proceeds will be donated to oncology research supported by the AIRC Foundation with a contribution of €5 for each ticket sold).

We continue the next day with a regenerating visit to the Glauco Beach Club in Soverato for a brunch by the sea, to arrive at the final evening of the Festival. This time we move to the splendid Tenuta delle Grazie in Curinga, in the province of Catanzaro, for the gala dinner hosted by a plethora of Calabrian stars, who join Alfio Ghezzi, Gianfranco Pascucci, but also the pizza of Jacopo Mercuroking of the Roman scrocchiarella, and of Massimiliano Preteup to the timeless sweetness of the master Gino Fabbripastry chef in Bologna.

«This year we chose to do things big – he comments Davanzo – because Calabria needs to be illuminated, lived and we young people must be its driving force. It is a land in constant ferment, yet there is only a partial awareness of how much it is able to offer, of the breadth of its gastronomic offer or of the amazing talents who have decided to invest in this area – almost all very young, smart guys , but above all cohesive, each ready to enhance the work of others by sharing – without jealousy – thoughts and skills, up to the common desire to involve the rest of Italy together with them, in chorus for a just cause”.

The good that gives rise to the good, be it the flavor of a successful dish, the pleasure of discovering an extraordinary land or the desire to offer a better future to those who live with pain and illness, encouraging and supporting in every possible way research which has as its direct ally, let’s not forget, correct nutrition. And nutrition, nourishment, food, are in turn anchored to the concept of conviviality, sharing and, why not, beauty. Everything we are preparing to experience next June 30th and July 1st with BOB FEST 2024: Calabria has never been so good!
