Homo Faber Economy: Venice capital of sustainable craftsmanship

Come back Homo Faber Economy with a new seminar Tuesday 25 June from 9am to 1pm in Room 10A in San Giobbe of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

The seminar will take stock of the project Homo Faber Economy, aimed at the regeneration of the entrepreneurial and social fabric of Venice. The leading companies and the path undertaken so far will be presented the relationships between craftsmanship and sustainability in the fashion and food/catering sectors.

The prospects and possibilities for Venice in this growth path will be defined an aware and responsible urban networkthrough case study examples, best practices and new methodologies, for transition of cities from a linear to a circular model.

The key moments of the morning program

The day will open with institutional greetings from Dr. Holy RomanDirector of the Economic Policies, Human Capital and Community Planning Area of ​​the Veneto Region, of the Councilor Simone Venturini – Councilor for Social Cohesion, Residence, Economic Development, Work and Tourism of the Municipality of Venice, of Giovanni Dell’Olivodirector of the Venice Foundation, and Stefano Micelli, president of Upskill 4.0.

During the seminar, the dynamics between craftsmanship and sustainability, the identity values ​​of Venetian companies and their relationship with the global market will be examined. The experts Giulia Porceddu Cilione – ESG & Impact manager e Paolo Manfredi – Columnist for Gambero Rosso, they will analyze some examples from the sector fashion and gastronomyillustrating sustainable practices and artisan activities integrated into the urban context.

For outline coherent and inspiring guidelines and values for the continuation of the project, Giulia Porceddu Cilione will explain the models on:

building a brand: identification of the identity values ​​and distinctive characteristics of a brand;
building a network: enhancement of the system and interrelationships between companies;
building governance: analysis of how this network relates to the territory and to the requirements of the global market.

Paolo Manfredi will examine how expand the audience of sustainable gastronomic offerscurrently almost exclusively reserved for the elite, including the middle class, and will analyze three different approaches for sustainability in catering:

Processes: compliance with regulations and attention to the environmental and social impact of the business, including aspects such as waste, energy, water, waste, contracts and work shifts;
Production chain: more informed purchases, avoiding products linked only to the distribution offer and cost assessments;
Creativity: integrate sustainability into the restaurant’s offering, into the menu and into the entire experience, making it a central element.

Perspectives and possibilities will be defined Venice towards an aware and responsible urban network through case studies, best practices and new methodologies, for the transition of cities from a linear to a circular model.

The Theory of Change

The theory of change is a methodology that maps the path from a current state to a desired state for planning, implementing and evaluating social and economic development programs. It will be explored in depth by Professor Stefano Micelli, who will interview Marika Moscatelli – Research fellow of the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails project e Lorenzo Cinotti And Laura Scarpa – Venezia da Vivere, to discuss how this methodology can support the objectives of the Homo Faber Economy, outlining perspectives, actions to be undertaken and crucial aspects for the success of the initiative.

The conclusions, before a networking aperitif, are entrusted to Anna Comacchio – Director of the Department of Management at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
